Arigato

I hit the jackpot with this card. It works for five challenges. I started with the Simon Says Challenge to make something Oriental and the CCEE sketch challenge in mind. I pulled my stamps out and picked the ones I would use, the A Muse "Kokeshi Doll" and the sentiment and tiny flower from the Hero Arts "Arigato" set. Then I decided that the Basic Gray papers Lilykate, Twigs and Indian Summer, Maple Sugar would be great and they go with the Color Throwdown #59 to use Ruby Red, Close to Cocoa and Pumpkin Pie. Crafty Creations called for embossing and I originally planned to just emboss the hair to make it look shiny but I didn't like how that came out so I stamped the entire image (three times) in Versa Mark and embossed them with black powder and colored them in with Stampin' Up markers. I stamped it three more times on white card stock and die cut it with a nestibilities, the twig paper was also cut with the nestibilities, then I cut out the embossed images and mounted them with dimensionals on top of the three on the nestibilities cut. The sentiment was stamped in Stampin' Up Pumpkin Pie on white card stock and punched out with a SU oval punch and matted on SU Ruby Res cs punched with the SU scalloped oval punch. All the papers were brushed with Close to My Heart Desert Sand. The base of the card is SU Ruby Red cs and the bling in the corner is from Close to My Heart. Using the nestibilities and punches makes this eligible for the ABC Challenge, D is for Die Cut.

Relax

Isn't that cat the cutest thing. My first cat, Samantha, was a black cat. She was a sweetie. I never needed an alarm clock back then because she used to wake me up in the morning by pulling my hair. She'd get a little mouthful of hair and tug. How you reacted to that last piece of information determines whether you're a cat person or not. I love the kitties and found it very endearing, if it creeped you out or you said you'd kill the furball, sadly, you are not a cat person. I love doggies too but this is a cat card so I'm gonna talk about cats. This week The Cat's Pajamas challenge TCPTUES75 is a sketch. So I grabbed one of my favorite Cat's Pajama stamps, it' called "Relax". I find this name very humorous, mostly because while I'm trying to type this one of my current kitties, Memphis (she's the princess and she's at least 17 years old) is sitting on my chest. She's very tiny, not even five pounds and she likes to park on me. She's very relaxed. So's my other cat Shamus. He's a meatloaf. He likes to keep his weight a secret but he's waaay over five pounds and I'm pretty glad he doesn't like to park on me. He does like to park next to me, sometimes right next to me, like this morning when I woke up with him right next to my face. Again I found it endearing. The poor boy doesn't like to miss a meal and so he stays close to me until I crank open that can. After that he spends his day relaxing on my favorite wing chair. Cats know how to relax and the kitty on this stamp is really chilling with his pink lemonade in his tube/pool. I got out this paper cause I think flip flops are perfect for it and I knew I had that neat little button that's hanging off the punched border and I just had to use it. And the colors would work for the Stampin' for the Weekend colour (I think they're British)challenge to use pink, teal and orange. The paper is Imaginisce, Summer Cool Banana Flip Flop. It's double sided so I used the backside for the sidebar. The kitty was stamped in Memento black on white card stock and colored with copics. The sand castle border is a EK Success punch and the bling is Darice self stick gems.

I really enjoyed making this card. It's got a cat, summer colors, flip flops and pink in it. What more could you want. And speaking of pink don't forget to click on the pink ribbon on my sidebar. It's a good thing.

Boho Blossoms

I made two cards tonight. This one is for this week's MFT Sketch Challenge and also for the Paper Maniac Challenge to emboss, dry or heat. If you look at the other post for today you might think I'm a schizophrenic. I'm starting to wonder about myself, well at least my well behaved side is wondering about me. The party animal side doesn't care enough to wonder. LOL.

Pink and white cards are just so sweet and I love them and love to make them but they are not much like me. Nevertheless they come out of some part of me that I do my darnedest to suppress.

For this card I used the MFT "Boho Blossoms" set. I stamped the open flower in Stampin' Up Pretty in Pink onto vellum and embossed it with clear powder. On the white card stock underneath it I stamped the solid flower in Memento Angel Pink. I attached the vellum flower to the card stock flower with a pink. I stamped the sentiment on versamark and embossed it with silver powder and punched the ovals with Stampin' Up punches. I put white dots on the scallops with a gel pen. The dots were embossed with a Cuttlebug folder. The different layers were mounted on dimensionals.

The Haunted Design House's Macabre Monday Challenge #4 is Repulsive Riddle and Rhyme. I came up with a rhyme "beware the park, when it's dark". It's not very repulsive unless you're looking at that park and letting your imagination tell you what's going on inside there. ugh, I'm not gonna think about it, too gross for me, even I have my limits.

I found a new challenge starting today, it's Paper Maniac. Their first challenge is to emboss, dry or heat. For this card I heat embossed the bats and the fence in black.

This scene was made by combining stamps from two new MFT sets, "Too Cute to Spook" and "Ghoulish Labels". They were stamped on white card stock with Memento Black and colored with copic markers and then I sponged Ranger Vintage Photo and Worn Lipstick and Memento Dandelion over the card stock. I didn't sponge anything over the little girl. I think it makes her look magical and innocent. She's mounted on dimensionals. The paper is from K & Co, Tim Coffey Halloween Specialty paper. I flipped the striped paper over and used the reverse side to punch the boo border on with an EK Success punch. The ribbon is from the MFT Halloween collection and the sentiment was punched with SU oval and scalloped oval punches.

Happy Birdie

I once got a birthday card that had drawings of cutsie little animals on it. There were a couple frogs, a bird and two lambies with musical notes drawn on it. On the inside the sentiment was Hoppy Birdie Two Ewes. I've never been able to get that little sing song out of my head. Perhaps I have just gifted you with that little song, my apologies.
This week the Pile It On Challenge #14 is Birthday, and the little birdie song was going through my head when I thought about what image I was going to use for the card. The Pile It On gimmick is that you have to combine their challenge with at least one other challenge so I found a couple others to use for my card.
This little birdie is from the Inkadinkado (my favorite company name ever) "Birds Galore" set. I stamped it in Stampin' Up Ballet Blue onto white card stock which I promptly dirtied up by sponging Ranger tea dye and SU Basic Gray ink all over. I matted it with a piece of DCWV card stock that is as close to Soft Suede as I could find. I chose these colors for the SP Color Combo Cahllenge #14 to use Ballet Blue, Basic Gray and Soft Suede. The layout for this card is from the MOJO Monday 103 Contest. I used SU DSP Bella Bleu papers which were also sponged with the tea dye and basic gray. They were matted with grey card stock which was also used for the card base. The sentiment is from the MFT "You Take the Cake" set and is stamped in basic gray on brown card stock. A tiny strip of the brown is used in lieu of a ribbon and the bottom edge of the printed paper was punched with an EK Success Dotted Wave punch.

A Gardener's Journal, a Reader's Journal and a Teacher's Gift

If you have 3 square feet or more of dirt in New Jersey you gotta plant a tomato bush. Really, it's like a law. There is nothing better than a home grown joisey tomatah. Right about now they are nearing the end of the season and that's just one small reason to grieve the end of summer. If you need any more reasons to sob over the end of summer I'll hook you up with my husband, the teacher. I'm feeling terribly sad for the end of his two and a half months of vacation. You probably feel my pain.

While my hubbie probably could journal about his summer vacation I had the gardener in mind when I altered this $1 notebook from Michael's. I got a pile of them so be prepared to be viewing a few more of them.

For $1 you've got a great base for a customized journal and they make great gifts. So I'm starting my Christmas presents early, but I expect to get distracted as usual and be frantic as the holiday nears.

For this journal as well as the other two I made today I used MFT sketches so that I could get a few more done on my way to the 100 Sketches. I've only got about seventy to go now. Hey, it could happen.

The stamp set is MFT "Can Ya Dig It?". This is a great stamp for paper piecing, one of my favorite techniques. The papers are from My Mind's Eye and are perfect for the Stampin' for the Weekend Challenge to use pink, orange and teal. To start I took a piece of Stampin' Up Kraft Card stock and punched one edge with the Stampin' Up spiral punch so that I could cover up the original cover page. Then I cut the pieces of the designer paper for the MFT layout and punched the diagonal edge of the bottom piece with the Martha Stewart floral lace border punch and added a piece of orange ribbon below the punched edge. I stamped the gardener image on white card stock with Memento Tuxedo Black, paper pieced the dress and hat and colored the rest of the image with copics and sponged the edges with Memento Angel Pink. The flower pot was stamped with Stampin' Up Only Orange and is mounted on dimensionals. The flowers on the hat are Sparkle Gems Small Blossoms. I added a variety of ribbons down the rings of the notebook.

For the next notebook I used MFT sketch #77 and the "I Heart Books" stamp set. This time the papers are from Basic Grey, June Bug. The colors for The Pink Elephant Challenge #31 are red, yellow, black and white which are all in the June Bug papers. Nowadays even the public schools make the kids wear uniforms. But when I was a kid only the private schools made you wear a uniform and guess who went to a private school. The uniforms were always a plaid and always made you look dorky, as if I needed any help in that department. You would think that being reminded of those horrid uniforms would make me want to burn this paper but for some reason I find it adorable. So I used it for the girl's pants, the rest of the image is colored with copics and the edges were sponged with Memento Dandelion. The card stock and red mat were cut with nestibilites. The scallops of the mat were pierced and the edges of the red mat on the cross bar were also pierced. I used the plaid for the squares on the side bar. The mats had the corners punched with a Stampin' Up corner punch. The bookworm was mounted on dimensionals and the edges of this oval were also sponged with the Dandelion ink. The initials are stickers that came with the Basic Grey paper pack. To finish it off ribbons in the challenge colors were tied on binder rings.

The last journal was made with the MFT "Back to School" stamp set using sketch #15. The paper is Basic Grey Two Scoops with a piece of DCWV green card stock. It was used to paper piece the jacket and skirt. The rest of the images were colored with copics. The flowers on the bottom left are the element stickers that were included with the paper package. The apples were covered with glaze. Ribbons that matched the paper were tied on the binder rings. This journal will make a great teacher's gift.

I Don't Do Mornings

In answer to question in the previous post this must be where the mojo went. I just do not understand how this stuff works. Last card I thought would be a breeze and I eked it out element by element, was tortured over it and didn't really like the way it came out. This one was just plain fun. It didn't end up the way it started out but where it went I like and getting there was fun.

This all starts with the stamp. I won this stamp set, "Celebrate Chandelier" by My Cute Stamps because I left a comment on the ABC Design Blog, at least that's where I think I left it. See my virtual buddy Erin (you can check out her blog here) from Splitcoast got a position on their Design Team and I was checking out her blog and found out about the week of stamp give aways and left comments wherever the blog candy trail left me. And "Voila!" I won this set. Justine sent me the stamp set and asked me to let her know when I used it. Justine is the co-ordinator of the ABC Design blog and her blog is Cardiology. She's giving away some blog candy for her birthday so if you're hungry for some blog candy click here and leave her a comment for a chance to win and then come back to finish reading about my card. Are you back, you still interested in the story behind this card. Okay, so as I was saying, I've been meaning to make a card with this chandelier stamp. It's a fun stamp and I found some paper to use with it but I put aside for awhile. So tonight I thought, what the heck I'm gonna make something with that stamp. I had a sentiment stamp that says "I Don't Do Mornings" and thought that would be cute with a light fixture and pulled that out. I wasn't planning anything but using them. I got out my supplies and started playing around. I pulled out the papers I picked to go with it, Basic Grey, Ambrosia, Grove and Melissa Frances, Olivia (that's the one with the pink chandelier). I remembered there was a challenge on Crafty Creations to use 3 or more design papers so I went hunting for another paper. I liked the Basic Gray, 2 scoops, Cupid's Arrow with the other two papers and so I had my papers ready to go. I stamped the chandelier with Memento Tuxedo Black first and after I stamped it I cut that paper. I decided on a layout and cut the other papers out and sponged the edges of all of them with Ranger Tea Dye and then distressed them. I really enjoy messing up those edges. Then I had to bling it up a little so I glued Taylor's Tiny Twinkles down a row of what would be crystals. The No Time to Stamp Challenge this week is Stamp Simply #103 -Overstamped Sentiment so I stamped my sentiment in Versamark over the chandelier and embossed it in silver, which shows up a lot better in real life than it does in this photo. It's really hard to see the details in this photo but if you click on it, it'll enlarge and you can see the bling and the embossing. Then I took some Ranger Distress Stickles in Scattered Straw and rubbed that over the cupid paper. Lastly I put on some silver Dew Drops.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all you who follow my blog. Every time I see a new picture go up I feel like a kid at Christmas. I read your comments and am grateful for everything you say. It makes my day, hey, I'm easily amused.

Where Does Mojo Go?

Did you ever have one of those days when nothing comes to you? I just had one of them. My brain worked very hard to come up with this card, a lot harder than usual and the card is not one of my favorites. The picture is bad too. I can't get the colors to look right, I really should consider learning how to use Photoshop. Oh well, that's not gonna happen today so I will go with what I've got.

Earlier this week a group of stampers announced that they had gotten together to create a new challenge blog. I'm familiar with a lot of their work from Splitcoast Stampers and their personal blogs so I was very excited to see what they would do. Crazy 4 Challenges posted their first challenge this morning. It's a fabulous sketch and there are fabulous samples from the design team. So I went to look for a stamp to use and nothing appealed to me so I went to look through my list of challenges and decided that I wanted to do the 2 Red Bananas Rub-A-Dub Dub Challenge to use rub ons since I had some really nice ones sitting around. I checked the color challenges and my rub ons work best for the Color Throwdown #58 to use Always Artichoke, Regal Rose and Chocolate Chip. I used nestibilities to punch out a white scalloped circle, a rose circle and a green scalloped circle. I placed a Marcella by K Bungalow Image Dimensional Sticker on the white card stock and mounted it on the mats. I sponged the edge of the white card stock and the floral petals with SU Regal Rose ink. I used rub ons from the matching Bungalow Glitter Word Transfers on the pink card stock. I cut the card stock to follow the wave in the words, and punched holes in it. Then I gathered the edge of some lace so that it would create a ruffle and sewed it onto the card stock. I attached this with dimensionals onto white card stock. The bottom edge of which was punched with a Martha Stewart punch. A Close to My Heart Nature's Ambiance brown rub on was applied to the card stock and then all the edges were sponged with the Regal Rose. Then it was applied to a piece of green card stock. A My Favorite Things sheer brown ribbon was tied around it and Heidi Swapp pink bling was placed along the punched edge. They are hard to see and don't look pink in this picture. You may get a better idea if you click on the picture to enlarge it. Because I used a brown card stock base I put a piece of white card stock inside and used another of the Close To My Heart rub ons on it.
I wish the team at Crazy for challenges great success, they already have several followers.

Design Team Call

In my browsing I found a Design Team Call. It's for the Pixie Cottage, it is a cutsie and whimsical place to be. Go take a look, it's fun over there. I'll still be here when you're done. There are lots of fun products for sale (think stamps, paper and embellies, oh my! Did you just hear Judy Garland?)) and I think it would be great to work with them. What they think is a totally different story and as usual there are only a few spots open. So my dear followers, when you read this think some positive thoughts for me, and who knows maybe this time I'll be lucky (did I just hear Liza Minelli? - ask your mother, if she saw the movie 'Cabaret" she can explain)

Funny, I just realized that the tangents that went off in my head were for a mother and daughter, that's probably only interesting to me but if you haven't heard it yet, I am easily amused.

Is It Ever Too Early For Christmas

Sometimes I like to put lots of layers and embellishments on my cards and/or to heavily distress them. Sometimes I like to keep them simple. This was a keep them simple card.

I'm not crazy about sending Christmas cards so I don't make many of them but when I saw this stamp I had to have it so I guess I'll be making a few this year.

Today I was reading the Moxie Fab World blog which is presented by Paper Crafts and they have a Holiday card challenge going on till Sunday so I decided to give it a try.

I stamped Memory Box "Owl Branch" in Memento Rich Cocoa onto white card stock and sponged the edges with Stampin' Up Basic Gray. I colored parts of the image with copic markers and matted this on gray card stock from DCWV. I stamped snowflakes from Stampin' Up "the Snowflake spot" set in Brilliance Moonlight White and embossed them with Stardust transparent powder and stamped a sentiment from that set in basic gray onto the Stampin' Up Bordering Blue card stock.

Simon Says Happy Birthday Heidi

And so do I. Happy Birthday to you, Heidi. It's a pleasure to make this card for you. I had a few challenges in mind when I sat down to make this. Over on Simon Says Challenge Blog I saw the post that asks all the followers to make a card for her. Well, I'm a follower, a customer, a cardmaker and a challenge participator so how could I ignore this request. I am also an avid My Favorite Things fan. I have many, many MFT stamps and love every last one of them. I follow the MFT threads over on the Splitcoast Stampers site. Every Thursday they post a new thread with two challenges, one sketch challenge and on theme challenge. There are cash prizes for these challenges. This week the MFTMFC15 challenge is to use the MFT colors which are pink, black and white. HA! That color combination has been a favorite of mine since I was a little girl weaving potholders. So all I had to do was pick a set to use. The Stamp Something
Challenge is to use your favorite stamp or stamp set and to use some punches or die cuts. The MFT "You Take the Cake" stamp set is my favorite for birthday cards and I love to use punches on borders, this time I wanted to use the punch on the inside too. I've been trying to make the insides of my cards a little bit fancier and I saw the challenge on Splendid Stamping with the Greeting Farm, a sketch challenge with the added "It's What's Inside That Counts". My sketch is tweeked a bit, and flipped around but it's something like the original. One of the punches I used is the scalloped eyelet border punch from Stampin' Up and that fit into the Stamptacular Sunday challenge #22 to use scallops as many as you want somewhere on your project. (OOPS!, I'm editing this in, this can't be used for this challenge because the project you make for their challenge can only be used in their challenge and this one goes way over that line!) And then there's the Pink Elephant challenge #30 to use two squares (the image is stamped on a square of white card stock and matted on a square of black card stock), one ribbon (see the pretty bow) and something that sparkles (there's glitter on all the polka dots on the dress, they show up much better in real life). So that's a lot of challenges but I only intended to do the MFT challenge and make a birthday card for Heidi, if you've got a minute why don't you make a card for her. She'd be pleased.

Now onto the details that haven't been mentioned yet. The image was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored with copic markers. The cake icing was made with pink liquid applique and the cake layers are covered with white flock. It looks yummy, but it's very low in calories. The white card stock was embossed with the Cuttlebug birthday folder. The black polka dot paper is from Making Memories.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JUSTINE!!!

Justine from Card-iology just turned 40. Poor thing, I mean WOWIE. Happy Birthday sweetie, I wish you many, many more and may they all be sweet. Isn't having a birthday the time when you are supposed to receive presents, well, Justine is giving away a present for her birthday. I love when people do that. All you have to do is post a comment on her blog and to do that all you have to do is click here and find the spot to post your comment. It's as easy as ABC and by the way, Justine designs for ABC Toys and Crafts. I was lucky to win a set of stamps when they had a contest last month, and all I did was leave a comment, so I know it's possible.

Meow

This card is for the Delicious Diva Sketch challenge #2 and the Basic Grey Week 2 Color Combo Challenge to use brown, yellow and pink. I wanted to use it for the Stamp Something Challenge, Animal Challenges but I missed the deadline. Sometimes it just works out that way.

This image and sentiment is from Inkadinkado "Cats" set, stamped with Stampin' Up Pretty in Pink on white card stock. There are several cute cat images in the set. I chose these two stamps because when I do a sketch challenge I usually stay close to the design that's given; I needed an oval shape for this design and by combining the image and the sentiment I got the right shape. I used Creative Memories cutting system to make the ovals. The edges of the white card stock were sponged with Ranger "Tea Dye". The edges of the designer papers were also sponged with the tea dye ink. I used the EK success Morocco Lace border punch on yellow card stock and used it to separate two Basic Grey papers, Lilykate Twigs and Porcelain, Rosenthal. There are pink dew drops and MFT pink ribbon.

Howl Sweet It Is

Do you just LOVE the flower on this card? You must. It is positively yummy. I just got two packages of these flowers and a couple yards of the lace on Tuesday and in the back of my mind there was some percolating going on and tonight it came together in this card. It looks delicate but it's a howler. This week I'm ho wing on Thursday. The Midnight Madness Sketch Challenge 17 was posted Tuesday and that's the usual howling day but that sketch had to percolate too. I usually like to combine the MMSC with another challenge but that just wasn't happening. Since I couldn't find anything else I wanted to combine with the sketch I decided to make a "get well " card and sat down with that in mind. This is what I love about the creative process, you start out with one thing in mind and you end up in a completely different place. This happens to me very frequently but since I usually like where I end up I'm happy about it. In fact where I end up is often much better than what I originally thought up. I guess I could use this for a get well card but it looks more like a bridal shower card to me. As a matter of fact that dress reminds me of my wedding gown, hmmm, maybe I can cut that up and use it in my cards...

This image is from the Clear Art Stamps "Glamour Girls" set. It's stamped in Memento rich cocoa on white card stock. The edges of the card stock were sponged with Memento Angel Pink and Ranger Tea Dye, all the paper edges were sponged similarly and then they were distressed. This incredible flower is a Prima Camelot Rose Gwenlyn. The paper is Stampin' Up DSP Bella Birds.

Baby, Baby, Baby

Okay, it's really only baby, baby. That's for two challenges that are about babies. The Stampin' for the Weekend Challenge #13 is an anything goes Baby project and the Paper Cutz Challenge#6 is to make a project for a baby boy or girl in green, yellow and orange - no pink or blue. There are two other challenges but they don't have anything to do with babies. The Pile It On challenge #13 is Round and the ABC Challenge is C is for Circles.

I started out with the baby stamp from the Stampin' Up set "So Many Scallops" which is round and baby. Next I hunted down some papers that would have the colors and/or circles and found the Stampin' Up DSP "Tea Party" paper which is yellow and has deeper yellow polka dots (aka circles) on it. I used a SU bold bright yellow card stock. The other patterned paper is orange. Since I needed some green I used SU gable green to stamp the image. I've had this ribbon forever. It's perfect for the color combo and for a little more green I adhered some MFT buttons. The stamped image was punched with the SU scalloped circle punch and the green mat was punched with the 2" EK scalloped circle. The border on the dotted paper was punched with the SU scalloped eyelet punch.

A Wildy Wicked Wingy Thingie

How's that for a name for a challenge. If you're a card maker looking for challenges there's a list of some of my favorites on the sidebar. A couple weeks ago the Haunted Design House Blog started a challenge called "Macabre Monday". That's right up my alley, it's become a regular place for me to play. If you're a fan of Halloween go check it out. I think this flying skull is the perfect choice for "A Wildy Wicked Wingy Thingie". Another favorite challenge is from Mojo Monday Sketch Blog. The layout for this card is from the MOJO Challenge #102.

I used black card stock for the base., I distressed a piece of SEI double sided paper - Eerie Alley, Nightmare Square by scrapping it with a razor and then sponging it with Memento Bamboo Leaves. The stamped images are from Inkadinkado's "Rock Star" set, the sentiment is from MFT's "Monster Squad" set. They're stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on white card stock. The edges are sponged with Ranger Tea Dye and Memento Bamboo Leaves. The large circle and scalloped circle were made with nestibilities. I'm so glad I finally can use my Big Shot again. Being able to emboss my paper and cut shapes out is great. The side sliders were punched with Cuttlebug "Sliders" punch. I slide them onto ribbon from MFT's Halloween collection. The right top corner was punched with bats from EK Success. There are three MFT black hot fix crystals next to the left of the oval slider, they're hard to see, if you click to enlarge the picture you'll get a better look at the crystals, in real life they are easier to see and appreciate. A Simple Altered Box

Here's a fun and easy project. You just need a little tin, some pretty paper, a ribbon and a button. You can add other embellishments but I like to keep these simple.

This started out as a Godiva chocolate tin. After you do the fun work, that's eating the candy, you cover the box with some pretty paper and now you have a great little container to use for a gift. Of course you can keep it and stash some stuff in it, but you can put something tiny in it, expensive or inexpensive, great gifts come in little containers.

This box is covered with MFT (My Favorite Things) Summer collection paper, ribbon and button. It only takes a few minutes to make one and it's really adorable.
