You've survived the Christmas festivities, now it's time for the next big holidays, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. If you celebrate the Eve you may not be in any shape to celebrate the day but that doesn't exempt you from making a Resolution. I've come to the point that the lose weight resolution never gets made, if I lose weight that's great but I don't want to feel like a failure if I gain a pound. I make crafting resolutions and I'm so much happier about the results that I'm suggesting you might want to make that kind too.
Over the last couple years I have resolved to make more masculine cards and to finish the inside of my cards. I've been very good with keeping those resolutions. This year I want to make more clean and simple cards. There's a couple challenges that use CAS as the theme so I will be checking them out and hopefully participating in one of them per week.
This week at Jellypark Friends the challenge is "Old and New" and we're introducing two new images, the teens. Isn't this the perfect representation of a teenage boy, there you go, another masculine card. Yeah! Visit the Jellypark Friends blog to see the cute teenage girl. For the challenge I used an old cutting system from Creative Memories, they can be used on larger images, my dies are too small for this one. The image is the new item. Now it's your turn to join in the fun. Just use something old and something new, don't forget to tell us which is which in your post and then link it up on the Jellypark Friends challenge blog. You could be the winner!
Here's the deets:
stamp - Jellypark "Teenage Boy Gaming"
ink - hp printer
paper - Stampin' Up "So Saffron"; October Afternoon "Sasparilla" dsp
miscellaneous - copics; Creative Memories Cutting System; the Cat's Pajamas "Stars" die and "Topper" die;

Merry Christmas! Believe it or not I made this card today. It's a pretty laid back day this year so I actually had time to put this together. Easy Peasy and fun.

ink - Memento "Tuxedo Black" and "Teal Zeal"

Happy New Year, Chinese Style
This is one of those cards that loses everything in the photo. Granted, it may not be my best work but it looks a lot better in real life. This paper is such a fun and vibrant print but the colors look dull in the photo. Enough complaining from me. I'm grateful that you've taken the time to visit. I know this is a crazy time of year for most people, so thanks for spending some of your precious time with me.

PIO - Midway
This month there's only one challenge at Pile It On and it's running all month so you can still play along. The theme is Pile On the Embellishments. How Fun!!!! I love to add bling to my cards so I put a couple on it. This time I used some gold glitter on my stars. That's unusual for me, I've got this idiotic fear of getting glitter in my eye so even though I like the way it looks I don't use it often. There's twine and die cuts and borders on this one too. You can use whatever embellishments you have, flowers, ribbons, charms, brads and eyelets. Go for it, now your chance to pile it on. Oh, and don't forget for this challenge you have to enter your card into at least one more challenge. The more the merrier. So go get inky and make a card to enter into our challenge. The DT loves to see what you've created and you can see what they've been up to at the Pile It On challenge blog, same place you'll find the linky thingy.

If I didn't know any better I would have thought that these cupcakes were actually Christmas ornaments but no, this is the photo for this weeks Cupcake Inspirations challenge. They look so realistic, it's uncanny. The sponsor this week is the Paper Shelter. They have such adorable images, they're hard to resist. If you don't like to color images there are pre-colored images available. I envy this week's winner. Some one's going to have fun shopping there, it could be you, so get inky and make a card inspired by this photo. The Sweeties look forward to seeing your creations.

Tag, You're It
Tags, ugh! That's the challenge this week at Jellypark Friends.
If you visit here regularly you know that "tags" are the challenge that I like least and that's because I stink at making tags. For my presents I either use a card or a store bought tag (horrors, don't tell anyone, it's my deep dark secret). So "tags" is really a challenge for me and it's good to stretch and do things that are not comfortable. AND when you work with the cute Jellypark images it becomes a lot more fun.
So here's what I did. I made a card out of the tag. Ta Da! That's the beauty of digital images. You can make them really small or really large, it's up to your printer how large you can go. I hadn't planned on making a card, I just wanted to make a big tag, one that would be good on a big present but at some point the idea of the card struck me.
This tag and the idea of the card/tag could be used for any occasion, and for anybody. Just pick your colors and images according to what how you want to use it. I wanted to make it a Christmas card and I love non-traditional colors on Christmas cards so I used one of my favorite palettes, pink and green. It's hard to tell from the photo but in real life the snowman image is popped up on dimensionals. It's also hard to see that there's glitter on all the hearts and circles and ornaments. It looks really cute IRL. The sentiment from the snowman image is on the inside along with a circle for writing a message.
Here's the deets:
stamp - Jellypark "Tag with Ribbon" and Jellypark "Snowman with Birds"
ink - hp printer
paper - My Favorite Things "Pink Lemonade" and "Sour Apple" card stock
miscellaneous - copics, Viva glitter pen
Here's the challenges:
Jellypark Friends - Tag It
Totally Gorjuss #161 - Oh No Snow!
No Matter Which #5- Christmas
Come and Get It - Tag You're It
L'il Red Wagon - We Wish You a Pink Christmas
Ruby's Rainbow #43 - Christmas with non-traditional colors
Cutie Pie #33 - Cute Christmas
Dream Valley #47 - Christmas

Catching Up
I got behind on the My Favorite Things sketches. This card is made with #98. When it was posted I just couldn't come up with anything. I just couldn't come up with anything. Now that it's done I really love it.
One of the things that you might not see is that there is lots of stamping on the Rounded Banner die. There's a sentiment in toffee ink and over that there's bells and ribbons in Walnut Stain. Even in real life it's not that easy to see, it's very subtle but it adds something to the overall look. Ranger Walnut Stain is what's sponged all over the edges. It's a very dark ink and I usually don't like the way it looks but on this card it works for me.
Here's the deets:
stamp - My Favorite Things "Tickets" stamp and die-namics set, Inspired by Christmas for the "noel" on ticket, the sentiment and bells stamped on the banner
ink - Versafine "Toffee"; Colorbox "Chianti" and Ranger "Walnut Stain"
paper - Graphic 45 "Botanicabella collection Love Letters"; Stampin' Up "Cherry Cobbler", "Sage Shadow" and "Barely Banana" card stock; My Favorite Things "Kraft" card stock
miscellaneous - My Favorite Things "Poinsettia", "Dizzy Border", "Dizzy Doily", and "Rounded Banner" die-namics; brass pearls; Candy Cane Divine Twine; candlestick charm

CIC190 DRS Designs
I am so glad that the inspiration is just a photo and not real cupcakes sitting in my house, because they look like something I would eat all up. I am a sucker for butter cream icing and coconut. I'm sure they would be yummy to eat but since I can't eat them I am just as happy to have them as my inspiration for this week's Cupcake Inspirations challenge CIC190. Also happy to say we have DRS Designs returning as our sponsor. They provided the cute snowman image I used for my card. They've got tons of images so go check it out and then get busy making a card for our challenges, who knows, this could be your lucky week.

Verve Prize
If you visited my blog at all during the month of October you probably saw that I was participating in the Hope You Can Cling To challenges at Splitcoast Stampers. There was a challenge a day for most of the month, and on a couple days there were two or three challenges. As you know October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.
These challenges are based on raising awareness and they have themes that go with it. Part of the challenge was a request that the cards be sent to UT MD Anderson Cancer Center where they will be available to the patients and their visitors. When the challenges closed prizes were awarded. And boy of boy were there great prizes. If you entered one and only one challenge you could win a prize and then there were larger prizes which if you finished all the challenges you could win. I won a prize package from Verve Stamps with a value over $50. How cool is that!!! I know I was very excited to have won a prize and couldn't believe that I was picked. I hoped I might win something but I never expected that I would.
During the time the prizes were being awarded I followed the prize post thread and met some fun ladies. As Lydia tortured us by dragging out the awards over several days we had lots of fun chatting and waiting for the funny animal photos to be posted. The photos were hysterical and there would be a winner posted with it. Then after that Lee would have a funny smiley face to go with it. It may not sound very exciting or even fun here but it was. We were having so much fun that we decided to continue the fun but posting what we made with out winnings. So as soon as I could I took my goodies out and made this card. Even though I had already made a card for the Mojo Monday challenge I made another card with the sketch because that challenge is sponsored by Verve. Makes sense, right?
Now, I don't want to take anything away from this Verve prize because I think it is fantastic and I think it's fantastic that Verve and so many other vendors donated prizes. However the grand prize is a Pazzle package valued at $599. I didn't anything about Pazzles before and don't know much about them yet but come Friday I'm going to know a whole lot more because my dear friends I won the grand prize. You could have pushed me over with a feather when I found out. I'm still a little in shock. I never imagined that I would win that prize. I participated in the challenges because I love to make cards and I have a deep hatred of cancer. I'm sick of it getting my friends and relatives and I firmly believe that everything you do to fight it, even making a card, is a dent in its armor. If we all keep chipping away eventually we will be able to say, "I can't remember the last time I heard of someone having cancer". From these pages to God's ear...
Here's the deets:
stamp - Verve "Brighter Days"
ink - Memento "Gray Flannel" and Memento "Tuxedo Black"
paper - Stampin' Up "Basic Gray" and "So Saffron" card stock; Teresa Collins "Carolina Breeze" patterned paper
miscellaneous - Spellbinder's "Labels Eighteen" die; ribbon; bling; machine stitching

Mo Mojo
One of the challenges I visit regularly is Mojo Monday. It's a sketch challenge and the design team always has great samples. While I was visiting the blogs I found a card request for a young girl who is ill and will be undergoing treatments for two years. That reminded me of something that occurred when my daughter was that age. She was covered in large black and blue marks. There were so many of them that I was scared and called her doctor. The doctor sent us for blood work which was a horrible experience made better by the very caring and patient nurses. It took about 45 minutes of coaxing and cajoling and chasing around the room. In the end it took 3 nurses and me to hold her down and still while they drew the blood. After a couple days of anguish awaiting the test results we found out that she did not have leukemia, but she did have something else that I've since forgotten, maybe Fifth disease, that was easily treated. We were lucky. But that fear, has left an indelible mark in my memory. Anytime I hear of a sick child I remember that experience and I say a prayer for the family for health and strength and a prayer of thanks that we were spared.

I thought I knew where that request was posted but when I went back to put a link here I couldn't find it. Hopefully the slip of paper I noted the address on is still on my desk. I used the Mojo sketch to make a card for the girl. This image was a freebie from Whimsie Doodles, there's usually a few there and they're all cute like this one.

CIC189 - The Twinery
These are fun and yummy looking cupcakes. It's the Cupcake Inspirations Challenge for this week with a new sponsor, The Twinery. When I first saw baker's twine used as an embellishment, I had to have it . I brought four colors right away. I use it on most of my cards and I've picked up a few more colors.
At the Twinery there are over 20 colors available. It comes on spools or in 15 yd. cuts. Check it out, you just might have to get some. I'll be going there when my supply runs low.
Baker's twine looks great by itself or with charms or tags hanging from it. It can be used in some interesting and different ways. I saw it wrapped in circles to look like an all day sucker, one of those really big lollipops, cute and clever.
I wanted to keep my card suitable for a boy so I've gone easy on the embellishments, just wrapping the twine around one of the elements and tying it off with a bow. The papers were picked because there's a snowman on one of them that reminded me of the paper that's wrapping the cupcakes, and the colors are similar. The little boy in the penguin costume has been ice fishing to go along with the winter theme. Now it's your turn to make a card inspired by the cupcakes. the sweeties can't wait to see what you create.
