PWC243 - Square Cards

It's Wednesday, it's the end of the month, it's the middle of winter.  UGH, does it get any yuckier.  I guess if you've got a foot of snow or other bad weather happenings it could be worse.  But I digress... Nobody needs a hard challenge this week, we need something light and easy.  At  Paper Pretties we've got a challenge that fits that bill - "Square Cards".  I love a square card, I don't know why, I just do.  I hope you do too, I like checking out your cards so after you've finished putting the final touches on your card don't forget to link it up on the Paper Pretties challenge blog.  And if you're lucky you may be the winner of some digis.  While you're over at there you can check out the other team members work and you can see the latest digi by ARTish.

Skating

Hopefully the only snow I'll see this year is on cards.  I spent many years living where it snowed.  I tried most snow activities and pretty much have an emergency room tale to tell for every one of them.  You don't need snow to ice skate but I include it in my list of winter sport injury stories.   I didn't end up in the emergency room that time but I was carried off the ice by a couple big guys and had to hobble to my ride.  So when I see a cute image like this one it brings up those fond memories for me.
Here's the deets:

PIO - Decorative Tape

This week the Pile It On challenge is "Decorative Tape", you know, like Washi tape.  The challenge is sponsored by Freckled Fawn who are giving a $15.00 gift certificate to the winner.  too bad I can't play along, there are some very cute embellishments I have to have.   They have lots of Washi Tape if you're interested.  It's amazing how many colors and patterns of that stuff you can get.  For those of you who have to have everything this could be a problem, at least it's not expensive or bad for your health.

Cherry Cobbler is a favorite of mine.  It's a beautiful, rich, deep shade of red.  These two cards are almost the same.  The  first card was made with Cherry Cobbler and a white card stock.  The red and white looked great together until the washi like tape was added.  Even though it's red and white it doesn't read as red and white on top of the lined paper.  Kraft looks great with red too so I made a second card using Kraft card stock instead of the white card stock.  Looking at the two of them in real life it's hard to pick a favorite.  The image really pops on the white card stock but it matches better on the kraft and has a vintage look that I like.

Here's the deets:
stamp - Stampin' Up "Friendship Preserves"
ink - Versamark
paper - Stampin' Up "Cherry Cobbler" card stock and ""Regals Collection" dsp; My Favorite Things "Whip Cream" and "Kraft" card stock

Jellypark - New Release

This week my Jellypark Friends assignment is to use one of the new releases.  The Jellypark Friends challenge for this week is to use buttons.  So to be in line with the challenge I used buttons, sort of,  on my card.  They're made from card stock with a button die to match the green mat and they don't show very well in this photo.

There's plenty of inspiration on the Jellypark Friends challenge blog.  You should stop over there to see what the rest of the design team has made.  They are so talented and they love working with the Jellypark images and you can see that love in what they make.

PWC242 - New Technique

This week Paper Pretties is challenging you to try a "New Technique".  Are you cringing?  It's such a drag to try new stuff isn't it?  I know I'm reluctant to take the time to try something new when it's so much easier to just keep doing the same old things.  BUT I also know that it's good to stretch a little, so give it a try, there must be something you've seen online that you wanted to try.  If you need some help coming up with an idea you can go to Splitcoast Stampers.  There's a section of tutorials with lots of techniques you probably haven't tried yet.  Here's a link so you can find it easily.

My card used the "spotlight" technique.  It's pretty easy to do.  Stamp your image twice.  On one image color sections that you will punch out.  Mat the section(s) you colored, apply dimensionals and mount it to the uncolored image in the area that it matches.  I'm not sure if I like it or not, at first I didn't care for it but it's starting to grow on me.

Here's the deets:
stamp - Paper Pretties "Brew Your Coffee"
ink - MFT Color Box Black Licorice

CIC194 - Fresh Brewed

Despite the fact that I do not care for snow I do love these cupcakes.  If they were in my house they wouldn't last very long.  So once again I am grateful that the Cupcakes Inspirations Challenges only send me photos for inspiration.  If you aren't inspired by the cupcakes this week we also offer you a color challenge - pool, white and chocolate.  You've got two ways to play along in the challenge, so you have to get busy and play along.  This week we have one of our regular sponsors - Fresh Brewed Designs.  There's lots to choose from at Fresh Brewed, my favorites are the coffee related images.  Funny thing, I don't like snow, but I love snow themed images and I don't like coffee but I love coffee themed images.  Go figure... I was supposed to be making the point that there's something for everybody at Fresh Brewed so be sure to link up your creation for a chance to win some digis.

My card was inspired by the cupcake photo and I used the colors.  There's no sentiment on the card so that I have the choice of saving it as a Christmas card or using it as a winter note or birthday card.  Now it's your turn to make a card.  If you need some more inspiration pop over to the Cupcake Inspirations Challenge blog to see what the rest of the design team has created and that's where you'll find the linky to add your card to the submissions.

Here's the deets:

Mo's Shy Nessa Valentine

That's one big box of chocolates.  They're probably lining the shelves of the local CVS with those boxes.  I used to wonder who brought those five pound boxes till the day after Valentine's day when one of my co-workers came into the office with one.  Her father had brought it and her mother wanted it out of the house.  It's a good thing no one ever gave me one because I wouldn't have given it away.

Remembering the 70's

I've heard it said that if you remember the 70's you weren't there.  I understand what that means because I was there and I do remember some of it, but jeez, that's a long time ago.  Those were the peace and love days when bell bottom blue jeans had to be washed a dozen times to look like they were, no such thing as stone wash back then.  Stone wash wasn't the only thing that didn't exist yet.  Here's just a few things we didn't have: cell phones; big screen TVs; cable TV; home computers and the internet; DVDs; iPods; iPads; iAnythings.  It was a much more innocent time but everything changes, it wouldn't be long before cable was in my house, and the music industry started changing.  We went from vinyl, to CDs, Walkmen to iPods.  It just keeps changing,  and I hope I can keep up with it.

PIO #2 - Funny Card

Pile It On's  challenge #2 of the year could easily be my favorite.  It's to make a humorous birthday card.  Who among you doesn't love to torment anyone older than yourself with an insultingly funny card?  Sadly, for some of us, no names mentioned, the list of people we can send this kind of card to is growing shorter.   I've remedied that by sending them to people younger than me too, hey, they're getting up there now too and it's about time I let them know it.  And yes I know that it leaves the inevitable "you'll always be older than me" remark to be made but it's going to be made sooner or later in the conversation anyway so I might as well get my dig in there too.  Have you noticed that the people who are only a little bit younger than you are the ones who really like to dig it in, or am I the only one who has that kind of friend?

Here's the deets:
stamp - Bugaboo "Make It Snappy Stella - Stella Birthday Old Fart"

Jellypark Friends - Winter Animals

Have you had enough rest for the holidays?  If you're ready to get back to crafting it's time for a new Jellypark Friends challenge.  I am so glad that the challenges are back and even happier that the holiday craziness has subsided.   Oddly, if you live in my neck of the woods, things in general are starting to get a little crazy as this is "the season" and the snow birds are arriving en masse, they don't disturb my crafting, if anything they make me want to stay home more and then I craft more.   But I digress...
This week's challenge is "Winter Animals" which gives me an excuse to use one of my favorite images from the Christmas collection.  I just love these Polar bears and knew I was going to use the S.E.I. paper with the green snowflakes I just didn't know I was going to make a shaped card - especially when I didn't have to!  Well, if you follow me or are a regular on Splitcoast Stampers you know that I won the grand prize, a Pazzle, for completing all the Hope You Can Cling To challenges.  If you don't know what a Pazzle is, it's an electronic cutting machine, which operates off computer software.  It's very cool, and that's what I used to make the cup.  I cut out two of them and adhered them together with a small piece of matching card stock.  I suppose I could have made it with a fold on the left hand side but I thought of that after I started playing around.  While there are snowflakes borders I could have made with the Pazzle I have an EK Success punch which I used for this border.   I used the little flakes that it punched out to decorate the card.  I'm going to tell you a secret, and this is a tip for the Top Tip Tuesday challenge.  There was a little pink dot on my image so I covered it with one of the snowflakes.  There's almost always something you can do to save your work when something goes wrong.  Just remember - "embellish, embellish, embellish".

Here's the deets:
ink - hp printer
paper - Bazzill "Patch" and "Parakeet" card stock; S.E.I. "Berry Melody - Frosty Pup" dp

Big News, Im a Pretty Girl Again

Big News!  I'm a pretty girl again!  Wohoo!  I'm very excited to be working with Paper Pretties again, I hope you'll enjoy my Paper Pretties creations.  For this week's challenge we're asking you to use brads.  That's pretty easy, I know you can do that so after you've finished your card pop over to the Paper Pretties challenge blog and link it up.  Who knows, you could be the winner of some digi images like this cutie pie Birthday Bird.

There are two new digi images being released today.  This one is "Happy Bird-day" by Fawn Palmer.  Very cute, don't you think.  I had to have it.  First of all it goes perfectly with this paper and secondly I have a couple friends who say "Happy Birdie" (I'm not the only one that's easily amused).  I know the Paper Pretties fans love ARTish digis so don't worry there's an ARTish image there too.

Here's the deets:

CIC192 - 7 Kids College Fund

That cupcake sure looks like a New Year's Eve party to me.  Just in case this Cupcake Inspirations Challenge photo doesn't inspire you  we've added a color palette that you can use for your card.  This week's sponsor is 7 Kids College Fund.  They've got everything you need for paper crafting so get your supplies out cause you can definitely use that prize.

I was inspired by the cupcake because I just happen to have an Obsession Impression stamp that looks an awful lot like the cupcake pictured here.  There's red glitter on the ribbon and gold glitter on the circles and some gold and red bling.

Here's the deets:
