Sending Happiness

Surprise, this week both of the design teams at Pile It On are working.  Did you even know or care that there are two design teams at Pile It On?  No, I didn't think so.

I was trying to make a masculine card so I was keeping it simple, avoiding girly embellishments.  I don't think it came out masculine, in that I don't think a man would pick this card to send  but I think it could be sent to a man.  I also think I gotta work on my masculine card making skills, or lack thereof.

Can You Bake a Pie?

Well you don't have to be able to bake a pie to play in this week's Cooking It Up With Katie "Piece of Pie" challenge #85.  In this case PIE stands for P - punch, I - ink, E - Emboss.   For my card I used a Martha Stewart tag punch (the sentiment on it says "hugs"), there's Ranger Ink sponged on the edges of the papers and I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder for the white card stock layer.

For the Girls

If you like to make girly cards this week's Cooking It Up with Katie is perfect for you.  Challenge #73 is to "Make a Pink Blingy Sticker".  this week there are two sponsors Meljen's Designs and Pizzazz Aplenty.  So how can you pass this challenge up.

For this sample the image is Meljen's "Brooke's Butterflies".  If you visit Katie's blog you'll see what the rest of the design team has done with Meljen's images this week.  If you'd like to see some of my other cards made with Meljen's images you can find them by using the labels gadget all the way at the bottom of my sidebar.

How easy is this challenge, unless for some reason you don't like pink (impossible) or bling (you gotta be kidding, who doesn't like bling) and adding a sticker is just plain easy.  For this card I dug deep into my stickers and found some Doodlebug stickers that were made from double sided adhesive.  The ones I used are the butterflies and flower below the pink lace.  All I had to do was shake some glitter over them and Voila! Glitzy stickers. The butterfly at the top of the card came with the paper pack.  The bling isn't showing too well in the photo, where you see little dots around the swirls in the image that's where the bling is.  In real life you can see it very well.

Let the Sunshine

It's time to cook.  To cook up a card or project that is.  This week the recipe for Cooking It Up with Katie is to make a sunshiney card with swirls and a sentiment.

a closer look at the sun charm

There's lots of swirls on the dp used for the crossbar.  There's swirls on the image too.  I even drew a swirl at the tail end of the bee sticker.  It doesn't show up that well in the photo.  Flourishes, especially blingy flourishes are all the rage lately so you could incorporate one of them into your creation.

For sunshine I turned to yellow design paper and of course a sun charm.  I think yellow cards are full of cheer which is how I decided upon "cheer up" for my sentiment.  But this image could be used for any occasion or  "thinking of you".  If you're not squeamish you can write your own sentiment like I did but if you're a scaredy cat you can use a sticker, a rub on or a stamp.  Whatever works for you.  After you finish your creation go to the Cookie It Up With Katie challenge blog and use the linky thingy so we can see it.

Yummy!

This has got to be the yummiest thing I've seen all day.  This little cutie is from Meljen's.  Meljen's is sponsoring this week's Cooking It Up With Katie challenge #45.  The recipe is "Cute, Green and Brads".  Choosing was difficult only because Meljen's has so many cute images (wait till you see the little lamb).  Then I found some green card stock and some green brads and whipped up this card.

My Furry Friend

Use a  furry friend, patchwork and button.  Leave it to Katie to come up with something to really challenge me.  The easiest part of this challenge was working with this image.  It's from Meljen's and you can find out all the details of how to get it on the Cookin' It Up With Katie challenge blog.  You'll also get to see what the rest of the design team did with the Meljen's images.  I got a sneak peek at them and one is cuter than the other. 
For this card I printed out the image on Georgia Pacific card stock and colored it with Copic markers.  I matted it with a piece of scrap and pounced around the edges with Ranger Tea Dye.  For the patchwork I cut up some October Afternoon "Thrift Shop" papers.  As a former quilter (maybe one day I'll take it up again) I can tell you that it's a heck of a lot easier and faster to make a paper quilt than a material one.  AND the math is a lot easier too.  AND I don't have that stabbing pain in my shoulder blades.  Hmmm, maybe I'll just let all those unfinished quilts remain as they are.

Let's Get Cookin'

I am so excited.  I have such great news.  If you're a follower you probably know that I am getting ready to retire from my job.  You have no idea how many people told me I would be bored when I started talking about retirement.  While I'm kind of looking forward to boredom, I stumbled upon a few design team calls and realized that now would be the perfect time to apply.  I'm so glad to say that Katie from Cooking It Up With Katie took me up on my request to join her team.   So I'll be busy with DT duties.  I can't think of anything I'd rather be doing. So how's that for exciting news.

If you're not familiar with the Cooking It Up With Katie challenges they're 3 part recipes.  This week it's 1.) choose a sketch from another challenge (my sketch is from CCEE with the twist of 'beverage" - a cup of tea)  2.) add yellow and 3.) do stitching (faux or real).

Besides following the recipe I spent some time distressing this card.  Sponging ink on the edges and roughing them up are two of my favorite things to do to a card.  Lately, I've become very fond of pearls and charms.  I've got lots of them on hand so you're likely to see lots more of both of them.
