Hopping for Jen

Today's post is a little different.  Today I'm joining a blog hop to honor my stamping buddy, Jen Scull. I've been on a couple design teams with Jenn.  She's a lot of fun and sweet as can be. Despite the fact that she's fighting breast cancer she keeps us laughing.  Throughout her treatment she's been more concerned about her family than anything else.  There are a lot of other people who share my fondness for Jen (check out the list of participants).   Paper Makeup Stamps have made a set of digi images. All the proceeds from the sale of this set are being donated to Jen's family. If you like the images or sentiments you see while you're hopping then go and buy them, they won't break your bank. Do you have a PayPal account? You can donate directly to the fund. Every single dollar is a blessing for you and for Jen.

Here's the deets:

CIC175 - Back to School

This week the Cupcake Inspirations Challenge have back to school cupcakes for your inspiration.  They are adorable.  So are the back to school images provided by our sponsor Bugaboo.  Usually it's the funny images at Bugaboo that I gravitate to but there plenty of cute images I can't resist.   Fortunately the prices aren't high so I let myself go a little nuts when I go shopping there.  Go check out the stop and the prices and you're likely to fill a card in no time.

One of the perks of being on the design team at Cupcakes is that when Bugaboo sponsors us we are given an image to use.  It's always hard to pick one because there are so many I like.  If you pop over to the CIC you can see some more of the back to school themed images that the other cuties used.  Well, if just picking one image is the biggest hardship I have to endure then my life is pretty blessed.  I hope that your life is equally blessed.

Here's the deets:
stamp - Bugaboo "Deacon - School Sign It 2"
ink - hp printer
paper - Recollections gold card base; My Favorite Thing "Kraft" card stock; Cosmo Cricket "The Boyfriend" dp
miscellaneous - copics; Stampin' Up notebook punch; hemp twine; apple charm

Angelina

This little cutie holding the balloons is Angelina.  My father's mother was also Angelina.  My grandmother had eight children, four of which were males.  I was the first female baby born to any of those men and as such I was supposed to be named Angelina.  My mother fought that battle and won.  I don't expect that my life would be any different if I were Angelina, I just don't relate to that name.   Many, many years ago I told that story to my best buddy.  Around the time she learned that fact the Rolling Stones had come out with their song "Angie".  Every time we were anywhere with a jukebox (and it was pretty frequently) she made a point of playing that song.  You can grow to hate a song under those circumstances.  One time she played it at the neighborhood bar we frequented, when it came on (for what seemed to be the millionth time) I "accidentally" fell on the jukebox ending the song for that time.

Here's the deets:
stamp - Mo Mannings "Angelina's Ballons"
ink - hp printer; Ranger "Tea Dye"
paper - Recollections gold card base; My Favorite Things "Sno Cone" card stock; My Mind's Eye "Miss Carolina - Fiddlesticks" dp

Pearls and Swirls at SFTW

"Pearls and Swirls " is the challenge at Stampin' for the Weekend.   The sponsor is the Pretty Little Ribbon Shop  Stop by the challenge to get a gander at the prize being offered and gorgeous work by the rest of the design team.

I needed to make an anniversary card.  My friend's parents have been married for 50 years so I wanted to make a special card for them.  This stamp set is an oldie but a goldie, the design on the hearts is perfect for swirls part of the challenge.  For the swirls, there are die cut flourishes but that didn't seen dressy enough so some blingy flourishes were cut up and added here and there.  Of course there are pearls, they've been added to the corners, at the ends of some of the flourishes and at strategic spots on the hearts.

Here's the deets:
stamp - My Favorite Things "Boho Blossoms"
ink - Stampin' Up "Cherry Cobbler"
paper - Stampin' Up "Cherry Cobbler" card stock and "Patterns Pack - Neutrals" dsp; My Favorite Things "Natural" and "Sweet Tooth" card stock
miscellaneous - My Favorite Things "Fancy Flourishes" die-namics; Martha Stewart "Lace Hearts" border punch; Spellbinder's "Scalloped Hearts" die; Sandylion  flower sticker; hemp twine; heart charm; pearls; bling; machine stitiching

Here's the challenges:

Monochromatic

The August 10th challenge at Stampin' for the Weekend was monochromatic.   I missed posting for that challenge due to an oversight.  However, I found out that I missed it so it's a real shame that yesterday when I found a note to make a monochromatic card for the 19th I hurried off to get it done.  Hmmm, the fact that the 19th was last week should have been my first clue, the fact that the monochromatic challenge was the one I know I missed might have set off a warning but no, I set done to work, with great purpose to make this card.  Well, I'm glad I did because I like it and I don't think I would have made it if I didn't think I owed it, monochromatic is not usually on my mind.

So today I had to sit down and make my card for Friday.  I like that one too so if you remember and have the time come back to see it.

Here's the deets:
stamps - Tim Holtz "French Market"
ink - Stampin' Up "Soft Suede"
paper - Stampin' Up "Soft Suede" card stock; My Favorite Things "Hot Fudge" and "Natural" card stock; Stampin' Up "Patterns Stack - Neutrals" DSP

Polished

I love the look of polished nails but you will rarely see me with my nails done.  Why? Because I am way too obsessive about them if I do them myself and I just don't have it together enough to keep up with professional manicures.  I enjoy getting them but I'm too lazy and cheap to go regularly.  When I used to do my own nails I couldn't stand if they got the littlest mistake in them I had to do them over, and then I wanted to change the color just about every day.  There couldn't be a bubble or a single little thing wrong or I'd have to do them over and I could never sit still long enough for the second coat to dry completely.  I am just a big old hot mess when it comes to drying my nails.  The last time I had a so called professional manicure the woman cut my cuticle and it bled a lot and hurt.  I was worried it would get an infection but it didn't.  I think I might have gone back but she didn't say she was sorry so that was it for her and after that I just didn't feel like looking for another spot.

Here's the deets:
stamp - My Favorite Things "ALM Polished to Perfection"
ink - Memento "Tuxedo Black" and Stampin' Up "Groovy Guava" for sentiment; Ranger "Tea Dye"

Gone Fishing

CIC174
Here's the Cupcake Inspirations CIC174 inspiration photo for this week.  The more I hang around the Internet the more I see that you can find a cupcake decorated for every occasion, every hobby, basically everything.  Isn't it amazing?  It used to be that if you wanted to dress up your cupcakes the decorations were little plastic models on picks that you stuck into the icing but these days bakers are ingenious sculptors making the decorations out of sugar and food products.  Watching them on television shows gives you a window into what goes on in their heads and kitchens.  They are artists, aren't they.

In case you don't recognize that little redhead, that's Gilly from Prairie Fairy Designs.  Just like the cupcakes there's lots of Gilly's for your cards and crafting projects.  Of course the store isn't limited to Gilly images there's plenty more, you should make a stop over there.  Be prepared, you'll want to shop.  Or you can enter a card into the Cupcake Inspirations challenge and be the winner, in which case you'll get to go shopping with your prize.  So get your fingers inky and play along, you never know, this could be your lucky week.

Here's the deets:

PIO #34 - Cuddly Critters

"Cuddly Critters" is the theme for this week's Pile It On Challenge #34.  Sounds like the opportunity to be making a cute card.  I can always use a cute card with a cuddly critter on it.  There's no sentiment on it so it could be used for a few different reasons - birthday, get well, thanks, lots of different uses for a card without a sentiment on it.

Two Big Losers

Some days I think that I will never lose another pound.  On those days I have to stop and think about two of my buddies who have been doing an absolutely unbelievable job of sticking with it.  Each one of them has lost over 100 pounds.  It hasn't been fast and it hasn't been easy.  They are working and working and working.  Every day they have to make the choice to eat the right foods and get off the couch to exercise.  It's not easy but they are doing it and they are inspirational.  Hats off to Dutch and Tazzie!  You gals ROCK!  Keep it up and off.  I love you  both and miss you guys immensely - but at least thanks to Facebook I get to see how you're doing every step of the way.  I am so proud of you both.

Of course I made two cards.  Pretty much the same but with a little change in colors.  The hardest decision is which card goes to which person.  I guess I'll be doing eenie, meenie, minie, mo (LOL, it's a Mo image).

There's a couple of the new My Favorite Things die-namics.  I just love the "Retro Squares" border  and the arrows in "Lead the Way" are just plain fun.  Can you tell that they are saying "NO!" to cupcakes?  Maybe that's where I'm going wrong, I do love me a piece of cake but I digress...This paper is from My Mind's Eye.  When I took my daughter shopping at Marshalls there were a few paper pads on sale for half price, how could I pass that up?!

Here's the deets:
stamp - Mo Manning "Hope"
ink - hp printer; Bic marker for sentiments
paper - Stampin' Up "Wild Wasabi" and "Soft Sky" card stock; My Mind's Eye "Lime Twist - Life of the Party" dp
miscellaneous - copics; brads; My Favorite Things "Retro Squares" border, "Rounded Banner Stax" and "Lead the Way" die-namics

Sprinkler Girl

Are you familiar with the saying "of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most".  That one seems to be hitting home more and more lately.  I made this card last week and I thought that I'd posted it already.  Just another forgetful incidence. The more I forget the more  I'm hanging onto something I'd read or heard a long time ago, that is "Don't worry when you forget you keys or where you put the phone, it's time to worry when you no longer know what they do or how to use them."  So far so good, but what about putting the iron in the refrigerator.  It's not like I use it very often, in fact I can't remember the last time I used it but I do remember laughing hysterically when I opened the fridge door and it was sitting there.  Ah, life, ain't it grand.

Here's the deets:
stamp - My Favorite Things "PI Sprinkler Girl"
ink - Memento "Tuxedo Black" for image and "Bamboo Leaves" for sentiment
paper - Stampin' Up "Dusty Durango", "Crushed Curry" and "Kraft" card stock; My Minds Eye "Lime Twist - Fly a Kite" dp
miscellaneous - copics; My Favorite Things "Skyline" and "Star" border (the star border ended up getting buried under the ribbon but the bottom yellow border is one of the toss away sides from the cut); Stampin' Up "Bermuda Bay" ribbon; yellow floss; sun charm; buttons; star brads; Spare Parts clip; machine stitching

Done with Dirty

I finished up my Dare to Get Dirty cards about a week ago.  It was a lot of fun, and a lot of work and I didn't make a card for every challenge.  Thank goodness they allow you to combine.  It is amazing how many people did make a card for every challenge.  I top my hat to them.  That's a lot of work in a short time.

I needed a rest after that, I made a couple cards I just didn't have the energy to post them.  But now it's time to get cracking so here's my Mojo Monday card.

Go Fly a Kite

While I was coloring this image I was making myself crazy about what color to make his jacket when it hit me.  Doesn't everyone have a gray sweatshirt hoodie jacket.  Even as an old coot I still an a sucker for a gray hoodie.

I just love this little boy, he has the cutest expression on his face, I wanna pinch his cheeks.    I wonder  if he ever got that kite off the ground.

Sadly, I've been noticing more and more challenges packing it in.  So it's with great pleasure I enter the first challenge at a new blog, No Matter Which Challenge.
If you're a challenge junkie go check them out.

CIC172 - Sunflowers

Oh yum!  Are these adorable or what?  AND the flower centers are Oreo cookies - Oh My!  I tell I can't get over how every week the Cupcake Inspirations Challenge comes up with another outrageous cuppie.  Too stinkin' cute.

This week the sponsor is Scrapper's Delight.  They've got some great digi images there, pop over and check it out.  I think the image I chose is perfect for this week's challenge but I'm sure you can find plenty of things you like while you're there.  Besides nobody says you have to use flowers on your card, just be inspired by the photo.

Besides the flowers I liked the color scheme and tried to stay close to it.

The ribbon ruffle that's under the image has been altered to work with the card.  It started out as a bright green and white gingham check which looked a little too bright to me.  To make it look subtler I put it in a plastic bag and added a few drops of copic ink (E40).  The ink is alcohol based so it took very little time to dry.  I'm very happy with the results.

Here's some of the things you may not notice.  The button are stacked, large yellow buttons with smaller green ones on top, one of them is an adorable heart.  There's a flower charm hanging off the pearl cotton cord.  The corner brads are made to look like buttons.

Here's the deets:
stamp - Scrapper's Delight "CU Flower Basket Digi"
ink - hp printer
paper - K & Co "Tim Coffey Cottage Garden" dp; Stampin' Up "Kraft" and "Pear Pizzaz" cs
miscellaneous - copics; buttons; cotton pearl thread; flower charm; My Favorite Things "Rolled Daisy" and "Fishtail Flags" die-namics; button brads

Pile It On #32 - Add Some Metal

This week at Pile It On we're challenging you to add some metal.  If you visit here regularly you know that I love to add charms (metal) to my cards.  This card is an exception, not that I don't have sewing themed charms but I also have sewing themed die cuts which I wanted to use for this layout.  Can you tell that they are a thimble, ruler and scissors?  I'm not sure if it's my computer or my photo but they don't show up very well on my screen.  So for the metal on this card I've added brass brads.  You can add whatever kind of metal you've got to your card.  The other important thing to do is to enter it into at least one other challenge.  That's pretty simple especially since there's always an "Anything Goes" challenge going on somewhere.

This week we're sponsored by Stitchy Bear.  My image is the digital  "Stitched with Love" which you can find in the "Valentine" section of the store.  I love the vintage look but if you haven't visited Stitchy Bear don't think that's all they do,  There are millions of great images to choose from.  OK, I exaggerated a little, but just a little, there are so many fabulous images to choose from that it feels like millions.   Have you stopped at the Pile It On challenge yet?  Well get on over there to see what the rest of the design team has created, leave them some love too.  we all love to read your comments.
