A Birthday with the Dragon

One of my favorite sponsors is back for this week's Cooking It Up With Katie.  Stamping Dragon Designs is sponsoring this week's challenge.  This week's winner will receive four images.  Even though I made my card for a girl one of the things I like about the dragons is that they are great for boy's cards too.  So what do you have to do to win this fab prize.  Just make a card or project using Katie's recipe.

This week's recipe is 1.) include some coloring, 2.) try a little curling and 3.) add a circle.

That's pretty easy peasy, even for a lunk head like me who had the card almost completed when I realized I hadn't paid attention to the recipe.  I did color my image and I was ready to attach my lace ribbon flower with the pearl center which would have been a circle but I didn't curl anything.  So, what's a girl to do.  The orange ribbon was already in place and it wouldn't curl anyway.  Then the thunderbolt hit me.  Why not try curling a thin slice of card stock.  Well, it worked and since it's the card stock used for the mats it's a perfect match.  In case you are craft challenged and have no idea how to do this, it's very simple.  Slice a sliver of the card stock and then roll it around a pencil and voila, you've got a curly ribbon.  I stuck a glue dot on the card to attach the ribbons.

Boy or Girl

Let's get cooking.  Not in the kitchen, but at the drafting table.  This week's challenge at Cooking It Up With Katie is to make a yellow birthday card using a sketch, and the sponsor is the Stamping Dragon.

What do you think about this cute dragon couple?  Are they a boy and his dad dragon, a mom and her daughter, maybe brothers and sisters?  I think that's one of the great things about this image.  You can use it to make a card for anyone. 

A nice cheery yellow card can be for a boy or girl too.  Of course you can make the dragon pink and purple if that's your favorite color, I think it the dragons would look fabulous in any color.

This week I have house guests so I am keeping this post short and sweet so that I can spend time with them.  We're having a great time.  So far we've spent a day at the pool and a day at the beach and we've got a trip to Sea World planned for tomorrow which will actually be yesterday when you read this.  Ah the wonders of technology...

Feeling Blue

 Blue, bling and buttons.  The dragon could be blue because he's missing his good buddy or it might just be his color.  Beats me (another blue).  Katie was having a "B" day, but not necessarily a birthday when she set this challenge.

For this card I had to paper piece the curtains, you might not have to, but I knew this guy's mother had put up some pretty floral chintz curtains.  This is a digi image so to paper piece I just taped a small piece of dp on my cs and printed over it.  Now, for this particular image I needed to get the windowsill over the curtains so I printed an extra image and cut it out, then glued it over the curtains.  It was pretty easy.  Give it a try.
