SFTW - Fairies and Fantasy

Can you believe it Friday again? Not only is it Friday but another month is almost over.  Before you know it this challenge will be over and I haven't even told you what it is.  So I better get to it.  It's the latest Stampin' for the Weekend challenge.  We've got "Fairies and Fantasy" for our theme and you've got two weeks to get a card put together.
The other day on of the design team wanted to know if a mermaid was an acceptable image.  This sort of cracked me up because recently there were a few shows on television that "proving" mermaids were real.  I tried to watch them but I kept falling asleep on them and what I saw of them didn't win me over so if you want to use a mermaid I won't removed your card from the gallery.

Are you looking closely at my card thinking something looks funny.  Not ha ha funny but peculiar funny.  When I was taking the photograph something looked odd to me and I couldn't figure out what it was but I finally figured it out.  Have you got it.  It depends on how good your eyesight is, or how detail oriented you are.  If you look closely at the background paper the white lines in it are handwriting and it's upside down.  I wasn't paying attention to that when I attached it to the card base, oh well...aren't those leaf wings the cutest thing...

Summer Fun

It's summer time and "Summer Fun" is the theme for this week's Bronte and Bella (Mo Manning's) challenge.  I haven't made time to make a "Mo" card in awhile so this was fun for me and it's summer - this is getting redundant.

This is being entered into "Use It Tuesdays". They want you to use up your hoarded stash.  I've got lots of stuff that meets that requirement.  The sentiment sticker was part of a gift I received just before I moved - 3 years ago.  I stopped buying ribbon over a year ago because I fear that I have more than enough to last me for the rest of my life!  The twine was purchased when twine first hit the scene and it was being sold as large spools.  I chipped in with four of my buddies, we each picked a color and when it came we broke each color into 4 parts.  Again, that was before I moved 3 years ago.  Do you see a pattern here?

Here's the deets:
stamp - Mo's Digital Pencil "Pool Party" digi
ink - printer
paper - Bazzill "Whirpool", "Apricot" and "Glow" card stock; Imaginisce "Splash Dance - Bubble Bath" and "Splash Dance - Bathing Beauties"

Let's Dance!

My favorite Broadway musical is "Wicked".  I can listen to the soundtrack over and over and over.  Everyone else is sick of hearing it but I can keep listening.   In case you have no idea  this show is a back story of the Wizard of Oz.  Elphaba is the future Wicked Witch.  She has a younger sister, Vanessa, who is in a wheelchair.  Glinda is Elphaba's roommate.  One of the songs is about the kids going to the Stardust Ballroom.  Vanessa says to the fellow she came with that she thinks he asked her there because he felt sorry for her.  He tells her no it's because she's beautiful and then he sings the lyric "Let's Dance!"  And in the show he twirls her around the dance floor in her chair.  I just love that part, it's very joyful.

This image has nothing to do with "Wicked" or the "Wizard of Oz" but whenever I look at it I hear that lyric playing in my head.

Skating

Hopefully the only snow I'll see this year is on cards.  I spent many years living where it snowed.  I tried most snow activities and pretty much have an emergency room tale to tell for every one of them.  You don't need snow to ice skate but I include it in my list of winter sport injury stories.   I didn't end up in the emergency room that time but I was carried off the ice by a couple big guys and had to hobble to my ride.  So when I see a cute image like this one it brings up those fond memories for me.

Mo's Shy Nessa Valentine

That's one big box of chocolates.  They're probably lining the shelves of the local CVS with those boxes.  I used to wonder who brought those five pound boxes till the day after Valentine's day when one of my co-workers came into the office with one.  Her father had brought it and her mother wanted it out of the house.  It's a good thing no one ever gave me one because I wouldn't have given it away.

Something's Baking

Isn't great when your kids start to do things on their own?  Baking cookies by themselves, what a great thing, they're so excited they can't wait to get them out of the oven.  The yummy smell wafts through the house and everybody is dying to bite into one.
Hmmm... Reality check time.  If you're not helping out the recipe is more of a guideline so if all of the ingredients get in that's pretty good, don't expect them to be properly combined.  Forget about the size of the batter to be baked, why use an inch size ball when you've got enough for a couple baseball size drops.  Baking time, forget about a timer, when they can no longer bare the suspense the cookie should be done.  Then there's clean up, HELLO!  There's never been a bigger mess in your kitchen and scarcer people to be found.  BUT your child has taken a step towards independence and that's a good thing.  At least you can comfort yourself with that thought.

Here's the deets:

Back to School

The end of summer was always bittersweet for me.  Summer was so much fun I hated to see it go but getting back to school was great.  Mom would take me shopping for new shoes, and school supplies, I had to wear uniforms so clothes weren't usually part of the spree.  Then the big day came and I'd get to see all the kids who didn't live in the neighborhood and catch up on what they'd been doing for the last couple months.  It was so exciting.  Believe it or not I actually liked the school part too.  Every now and then I think about signing up for a class.  Once a nerd, always a nerd.

Super Memories

Who doesn't have memories of dressing up as a super hero?  When I was a kid my family and my cousins family went on vacation at the Jersey shore.  It was a different time, a time when parents let kids go out by themselves.  We used to go to the boardwalk and drape our towels over our shoulders and pretend to be Superman and we'd dive off the boardwalk into the sand dunes.  It may sound dull or dorky but we were having the time of our lives.

In the not so long ago past my little darling used to dress herself up in some wacky outfits.  There was almost always a pair of panties on the outer most layer and often a long sleeved tee shirt with the sleeves tied criss cross over her chest.  I have no idea how she did it but she did and she would run around the house yelling "Super Liddy".  I remembered scrapping it so I dug out the books and found the page.  Too bad I didn't have this image when I made the page.

This image made me realize how much I've neglected scrap booking, I haven't made a page in over two years.  I think it's time to start catching up.

Angelina

This little cutie holding the balloons is Angelina.  My father's mother was also Angelina.  My grandmother had eight children, four of which were males.  I was the first female baby born to any of those men and as such I was supposed to be named Angelina.  My mother fought that battle and won.  I don't expect that my life would be any different if I were Angelina, I just don't relate to that name.   Many, many years ago I told that story to my best buddy.  Around the time she learned that fact the Rolling Stones had come out with their song "Angie".  Every time we were anywhere with a jukebox (and it was pretty frequently) she made a point of playing that song.  You can grow to hate a song under those circumstances.  One time she played it at the neighborhood bar we frequented, when it came on (for what seemed to be the millionth time) I "accidentally" fell on the jukebox ending the song for that time.

Two Big Losers

Some days I think that I will never lose another pound.  On those days I have to stop and think about two of my buddies who have been doing an absolutely unbelievable job of sticking with it.  Each one of them has lost over 100 pounds.  It hasn't been fast and it hasn't been easy.  They are working and working and working.  Every day they have to make the choice to eat the right foods and get off the couch to exercise.  It's not easy but they are doing it and they are inspirational.  Hats off to Dutch and Tazzie!  You gals ROCK!  Keep it up and off.  I love you  both and miss you guys immensely - but at least thanks to Facebook I get to see how you're doing every step of the way.  I am so proud of you both.

Of course I made two cards.  Pretty much the same but with a little change in colors.  The hardest decision is which card goes to which person.  I guess I'll be doing eenie, meenie, minie, mo (LOL, it's a Mo image).

There's a couple of the new My Favorite Things die-namics.  I just love the "Retro Squares" border  and the arrows in "Lead the Way" are just plain fun.  Can you tell that they are saying "NO!" to cupcakes?  Maybe that's where I'm going wrong, I do love me a piece of cake but I digress...This paper is from My Mind's Eye.  When I took my daughter shopping at Marshalls there were a few paper pads on sale for half price, how could I pass that up?!

Here's the deets:

Go Fly a Kite

While I was coloring this image I was making myself crazy about what color to make his jacket when it hit me.  Doesn't everyone have a gray sweatshirt hoodie jacket.  Even as an old coot I still an a sucker for a gray hoodie.

I just love this little boy, he has the cutest expression on his face, I wanna pinch his cheeks.    I wonder  if he ever got that kite off the ground.

Sadly, I've been noticing more and more challenges packing it in.  So it's with great pleasure I enter the first challenge at a new blog, No Matter Which Challenge.
