Dare

Dare to Get Dirty.  If you're a Splitcoast Stamper Fan Club member then you're probably working your dirty little fingers off.  If you're not a member spoil yourself and join up then you can play along with the rest of us.

I have a berry special friend.  We give each other strawberry themed presents.  We've been doing this since 1980 or so.  It's lots of fun to see a box appear in the post and there's that thrill of opening a present and wondering what will be inside.  One year we sent each other the same thing, pretty funny since we shop in completely different places.  She lives in California and I was living in New Jersey.   But it's not surprising that we're on the same wavelength, isn't that what friends are all about.

Here's the deets:
stamp - My Favorite Things "PI Bery Sweet"
ink - Memento "Tuxedo Black" and Memento "Lady Bug"
paper - Stampin' Up "Pear Pizzazz" and "Blushing Bride" card stock; My Mind's Eye"Mary, Mary 'Sweetie Pie' Strawberry Paper", "Mary, Mary 'Happy birthday' Celebration paper" and "Mary, Mary 'Beautiful' Gorgeous paper" dps; Me and My Big Ideas "Color Basics - Red" dp

Hot "Nuff

That pool brings back memories.  Didn't everyone have one?  Back in my single days one of my friends had one, she said it was for when her niece visited but I caught her in it  without a niece.  When my daughter was little we had one for her.  There was a particularly hot day.  I had gone out shopping and when I came back I found her along with her two of her teen-age siblings and her father all in that little pool.  There wasn't an inch of spare space but they were all having a grand ole time in it.  Too bad I don't have a photo of it to share.

What you might not be able to see so well in the photo - glossy accents on the water and goggles, eyelets (remember eyelets) on the circle element with the cord pulled through them, and the charm is a doghouse.

Here's the deets:
stamp - Mo Manning digi "It's Hot Out"
ink - hp printer
paper - Stampin' Up "Kiwi Kiss", "Riding Hood Red" and "Glorious Green" card stock; October Afternoon "Boarding Pass" dp

Resting My Eyes

It's been awhile since I've played with a Teddy Bo image.  They are so dang cute, I should break them out more often but you all know there's so many challenges and so little time...  Excuses...Excuses...                                        An old friend of mine recently had a heart attack so I needed a card appropriate for a man.  This week's Teddy Bo challenge is for a masculine card.  Once in awhile things just work out, of course I wish my friend didn't have the heart attack but he did so a get well card is in order.

the inside

I am such an air head.  I put the card together so that the inside is upside down and backwards.  Every now and then in the stores you can find a card that opens on the left usually it's got some kind of joke sentiment about it.   I'm not sure if aggravating a heart attack patient is a good idea.  Over the next couple days I will be agonizing over whether I should cut it apart and mount it onto another card base or will he enjoy seeing that I'm still basically a ditz trying to appear like I have my act together.  Decisions... decisions...

Here's the deets:
stamp - Teddy Bo "Just Resting My Eyes" digi
ink - hp printer
paper - Stampin' Up "Pacific Point" card stock and "Muirfield" dsp
miscellaneous - copics; buttons; floss; hemp cord; Martha Stewart tag punch; brads; machine stitching

One Big Martini

The glass in this image reminds me of a funny story involving one of those enormous glasses that some honeymoon type resorts have.  I've never been to one but I have seen photos of them.  Without telling the whole story I'll just say that when you are taking your souvenir photos for show and tell if you aren't properly dressed be aware of where the mirrors in your room are or you could be embarrassed when you take those pics to work.  'nuff said.
I love that there are lots of Christmas in July challenges out there.  It's just the incentive I need to get some more cards done.

the inside
I haven't been showing the insides of my cards lately.  They're still getting done most of the time but I'm just too lazy to take and post the pics.  I know, that's really lazy.  Today is different because one of the challenges calls for a finished inside and I don't think they'll just take my word for it.

Instead of machine stitching there's doodles around the paper edges.  It doesn't show well in the photo but Glossy Accents were applied to the berries, small glass and swizzle stick.

Here's the deets:
stamp - Bugaboo "JJ Christmas Cheer" digi
ink - hp printer; Ranger "Worn Lipstick"
paper - Stampin' Up "Poppy Parade" cs; Me and My Big Ideas "Reds Color Basics" dp
miscellaneous - copics; ribbon; bling; glossy accents; Spellbinder's "Label One"

CIC170 - Yummy!

My goodness those cuppies sure do look yummy.  My mouth waters every time I look at this photo.  These cuties are the inspiration for this week's Cupcake Inspirations Challenge.  Week after week I am amazed at how gorgeous and/or delicious looking these creations are.  If I'm making cupcakes I don't have the patience to make them so pretty.  I want to eat them, and soon.  I am just in awe of people who put this much work into them.  They really are a treat for the eyes.

This week the torture goes on and on.  This banana split is killing me.  Boy could I go for a bowl of ice cream right about now.  You'd think by now I'd of given up challenges and stamps that make me want to eat gooey sweet stuff but I am a glutton for punishment.  I can't even pass up the paper sweets.  I am pathetic.  This particular yummy is a Fresh Brewed  Designs creation, who just happen to be the sponsor for this week's challenge.  They've got lots more fun food and drink related images but that's not all they have.  Go check them out.

The inspiration photo makes me think of an old fashioned sweet shop the kind with a counter, so I picked a banana split image. When I was a kid at the local five and dime there was a counter where you could get a hot dog, fries and that sort of stuff.  Hanging across the top of the counter was a cord from which hung balloons.  If you ordered a banana split you picked a balloon which the waitress would pop.  Inside the balloon was a piece of paper with a dollar amount.  Whatever it said was what you paid for your treat.  It could be as low as a penny, I don't remember how high they went but it wasn't much more than a dollar.  It was such a simpler time back then, and stopping for a treat was just plain fun.

For this card after I colored in the image I cut it out and popped it up with dimensionals.  The chocolate sauce and the cherries have Glossy Accents on them.  The glossy accents gives it some shine and it looks really neat to me.  The button was made with the card stock used for the card.  Three were punched out, stacked and embroidery floss was tied through the holes.

Now it's your chance to create something inspired by the cupcakes.  Stop by the Cupcake Inspirations Challenge blog for some more inspiration.  The sweeties always have great samples to inspire you and they'd love it if you left some love on their blogs.

Here's the deets:
stamp - Fresh Brewed Designs "Banana Split"
ink - hp printer
paper - Bazzill "Turquoise Mist" cs; Stampin' Up "Bermuda Bay" cs; Basic Grey "Two Scoops" dp
miscellaneous - copics; Ranger Glossy Accents; bling; pink pearl cotton; cherry charm; EK Success "Arrow Border" punch; the Cat's Pajamas "Buttons" Cut Ups dies; brads; floss; machine stitching

Here's the challenges:

PIO #30 - Tag

Tags!  Dagnabbit!  That's the challenge this week at Pile It On.  I am awful at making artful tags, I see so many beautiful ones on other people's blogs but I just don't get the mojo for tags.

If you're like me and not at all talented in the tag department then do what I do.  Make a little tag, write a sentiment on it and hang it on some ribbon or twine.  Over on PIO we don't mind if you make a little tag to hand off your creation or if you make a gorgeous stand alone tag.  We just want you to have fun and enter your creation into at least on other challenge.  We're the backwards rule on that one, some challenges want to limit the number of challenges you play in, but not us, we want to see as many as you can find but we'll settle for just one more.

This card was made with a Mo Manning digi image.  I purchased this image because it reminds me of my daughter and our poor kitty kat, Shamus.  Liddy used to drag him around like the little girl in the stamp.  In fact she still drags him around.  He puts up with it for awhile but he really doesn't like it.

Here's a picture I took while I was trying to color the image.  He loves to jump onto the desk while I'm working and he takes up most of the work space.  He must have known he was the inspiration for the card so he decided that he model for me.  I think that sometimes he jumps on the desk to tick off the dog, maybe it's just to get away from the dog.   Either way I'm pretty sure he knows the dog is jealous.  He stays as long as he likes or until I get up, then he follows me out.  It's kind of cute to be followed around by a cat.

Here's the deets:
stamp - Mo Manning digi "Patience"
ink - hp printer
paper - Stampin' Up "Island Indigo " and "Lucky Limeade"; DCVW "the Pet Stax" dp

miscellaneous - copics; corner rounder punch; My Favorite Things "Mini Monarch" border and "Traditional Tag Stax" dies; cotton pearl; buttons; bling; cat charm; machine stitching

SFTW Pink and Green Challenge

This could easily be my favorite challenge. Stampin' for the Weekend Challenge #14 is the color combination of pink and green.  That's one of my favorite color combos.  It's so springy and happy.  There's all kinds of pink and green papers in my stash, and there's lots of green embellishments too.  For me it's more a case of deciding what not to use on this card.

I decided on a K & Co pad of papers.  Spring Blossoms is full of  floral designs in green and pink and they're already matched which makes things easy peasy.  There are two stamp sets used.  The flowers and Happy Birthday sentiment are from MFT "Flower Silhouettes" which has a die to go with the flowers.  Under the die cut flowers the floral paper is stamped several times with "Wish Big" from the MFT "Big Greetings" stamp set.  There's pink bling and brads and a green sparkler.  To top it off it's machine stitched with bright pink thread.

For some more inspiration stop over at the SFTW challenge blog and see what the rest of the design team created.  The cards are phenomenal, it will be worth your time to visit.  After you've enjoyed the eye candy it's your turn to use pink and green to make a card.  When you're finished don't forget to link it up.  We're all looking forward to seeing what you've made.

Here's the deets:
stamp - My Favorite Things "Flower Silhouette" and "Big Greetings"
ink - VersaMagic "Pink Petunia" and "Aloe Vera"; Memento "Bamboo Leaves" and "Angel Pink"
paper - My Favorite Things the Paper Cut "Pink Lemonade"; Stampin' Up "Certainly Celery"; K & Co. "Susan Winget Spring Blossom"

A Happy Find

Happiness is finding something you knew was missing but gave up on looking for (why can't I write a sentence without a dangling participle?)

I moved back in December and as I packed up my craft supplies I thought I was very organized.  Apparently I wasn't because to this day there are several things I can't find and for the most part have given up on.  So it was a most happy moment when I stumbled upon my Stampin' Bella stamps.  They now occupy a easy to find spot.

This week the inspiration photo on Pinspiration is of two fairies in a garden so I got to ink up one of my freshly found Bellas.

I hope my Stampotiques turn up soon.

Here's the deets:
stamp - Stampin' Bella "Maisy Ketto"
ink - Memento "Tuxedo Black"

MFT July Guest DT Challenge

This is for the My Favorite Things August Guest Designer challenge.  This month the challenge is a sketch.  I've followed it pretty closely and added a few embellishments.  These papers were on sale awhile ago and I've been pulling them out and putting them back.  Today they seemed the perfect choice to go with this stamp, well, at least to me they did.  The aqua and pink look sweet together (and they're the colors from the Fussy and Fancy challenge), the kraft cardstock is a nice change from white.

Here's the deets:
stamps - My Favorite Things "My Favorite Sentiments" (heart) and "PI Hula Girl" (wish you were here)
ink - Stampin' Up "Pink Passion"
paper - My Favorites Things "the Paper Cut - Kraft" cs; Recollections "Itsy Bitsy Ditsy Cherry Pie" (pink print), "Watercolor Cherry Blossom" (bottom layer) and "Watercolor Blue Ditsy" (white flowers on aqua) dp
miscellaneous - My Favorite Things "Perfect Bracket Edge" and "Scalloped Ribbon" die-namics; bling; brads; Mays ribbon; baker's twine; heart charm; machine stitching

Here's the challenges:
My Favorite Things MFTGUESTDT0812 - August Guest DT

CIC169 - My Favorite Things

If this cupcake display isn't enough to make you want to go right to your crafty space and create a card (while noshing on a delectable treat) then the fact that My Favorite Things is the sponsor for this week's Cupcake Inspirations challenge should get you going.  If you're a regular visitor to my blog then you know how much I love My Favorite Things.   If I weren't on the design team for this challenge I know I'd be making as many cards as possible for this challenge.  Seriously, I am a HUGE My Favorite Things junkie.  There are so many lines of images that there's something for everyone.  If you're like me you can't decide which line you like best.  It's not just the stamps that I love, there's the die-namics, paper, buttons, and ribbons too.   Then there's Kim, the owner of MFT, she's just the nicest person you could know.  If you're not in the Florida vicinity you can meet her on line in the forums on Splitcoast Stampers.  You can yak with the design team and the rest of the junkies and you're likely to bump into me there.

The first thing that struck me in the inspiration photo was the roses.  They are gorgeous so I looked through my stamps (this took a little time cause I have a lot of MFT stamps and I looked at all of them) pulling any that had flowers.  Then I finally narrowed it down to this Pure Innocence.  Next I pulled out my favorite flower dies, the royal roses and punched out a bunch of pink roses and a few leaves to keep to the color theme of the inspiration photo.  It's hard to see but there's a little rose charm hanging off the pink cord bow that's tied around the center panel behind the image.  All the paper edges are sponged with Ranger "Tea Dye", it looks really good on the roses.  There's some bling in the corners and the centers of the roses and for the final touch there's Star Dust Stickles on the roses.  I love the way this card turned out, it's going to be really difficult to give this one away.
Here's the deets:
ink - Memento "Tuxedo Black" and Ranger "Tea Dye"
paper - the Paper Cut "Pink Lemonade" and "Sweet Tooth" card stock; Stampin' Up "DSP Pattern's Stack Subtles" for the roses; Authentique "Bundle collection - Uncommon" dp; green scraps
miscellaneous - copics; My Favorite Things "Oval", "Oval Dainty Doily", "Royal Roses", "Royal Leaves" die-namics; EK Success "Scallopey Scallop" border punch; bling; pink cord; rose charm; machine stitching; "Star Dust" stickles

Christmas in July

Thanks to the challenges with Christmas in July themes I'm getting a few more holiday cards done early.  Could this possibly be the year I'm done with plenty of time to spare?  Wouldn't that be lovely!

This one can go through the mail without having to be hand cancelled but being a large square may require extra postage so if you're new to making cards that's something else you need to keep in mind.  I think 6" is the point at which extra postage comes into play but don't quote me on that.

Singin' in the Rain

If I had to pick a favorite musical movie it would have to be Singin' in the Rain. My heart went pitter patter the first time I saw Gene Kelly tapping his way through the rain clogged street and to this day I've got a crush on that man. The movie is 60 years old and it has recently been remastered, it was being shown at select movies theatres yesterday, unfortunately I had a previous commitment. Even my teenage daughter wanted to go see it. We'll have to settle for buying the Blu Ray version that will be released on the 17th.  I can hardly wait to get my hands on my own copy.

The Real Lyrics

Did you ever sing along to one of your favorite songs and find out that the lyrics you've been singing are all wrong?  There's some classics, I even had a calendar that featured some of the funniest ones around but the one this card reminds me of is mine.  In the Pink Floyd song "Wish You Were Here" the lyrics are "did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage".  But what I thought it was is "did you exchange your walk on part of the wall for a leaf grown in a cage".  Personally I like my lyrics better and sooner or later I'm going to commemorate those mistaken lyrics by using this die and putting a leaf instead of a bird in the cage.

Here's the deets:
stamp - My Favorite Things "Die-Namics Contempo Cage"
ink - Memento "Tuxedo Black"
paper - Stampin' Up "Dusty Durango", "Crushed Curry" and "Bermuda Bay" cs; Cosmo Cricket "Togetherness" dp

Enjoy the Ride

Blue, birthday and buttons sounds like a good excuse to make a man's card.  Of course if you want to join the Cooking It Up with Katie challenge 99 you don't have to make a masculine card, just use blue.  I just need to be poked to make masculine cards.  This card could have been sent to a woman until I stamped "birthday boy" in the license plate area.  So, if you need to be poked, then make a masculine card.

Here's the deets:
stamp - Papertrey Ink "Enjoy the Ride"
ink - Memento "Tuxedo Black"
paper - Stampin' Up "Crumb Cake" cs, "Pawsitively Prints" (striped paper)and "Patterns Pack II" (girds) dsp
miscellaneous - Papertrey Ink coordinating die for "Enjoy the Ride"; mini brads; buttons; machine stitching

Manly...

Some days I wish I could empty the useless things I've got stored in my memory banks.  Maybe that would make room for more important things like where I put my keys down.  Right now I've got an old Irish Springs soap commercial bouncing around with a woman saying something like "Manly, but I like it too".  I don't think that will ever be something I'll need to know, I doubt it will even come up in a trivia game but there it is, stuck in my head.

Here's the deets:

Be Bee

CIC168
Boy oh boy does this cake look inviting.  I wonder what kind of cake is under that icing.  It's probably a good thing I don't know, it's just be more temptation.  Did you ever hear people who work in bakeries say that after awhile you get sick of the stuff?  Yeah right!  I don't think so.  Maybe a lobotomy would take my mind off sweets but short of that I think cake will always be my favorite food.

This cute beehive cake is the inspiration for Cupcake Inspirations Challenge #168.  What comes to your mind?  There's those little bees, the hive, the color combo, the shapes, lots of stuff going on there if you take a good look.  If you play along with us this week you could win a prize from Stamp Fairy.  They're a great place for shopping, even better for winning a little shopping spree so get inky and play along.

My inspiration is obviously the bees.  Check out "Lenny Bee", isn't he a cutie pie?  He's from Stamp Fairy, so if you think he's cute (and who doesn't) you have got to go Stamp Fairy and shop.  If you're like me you'll probably have a hard time picking just one.

Bees make me think of beehives, which makes me think of hexagons, which makes me think of the bees crawling around in the hive which gives me hives and at that point I stop thinking about bees and start coloring.

Pile It On #28 - It's a Shore Thing

There's something sooo cute about a little girl with a pudgy belly in a bikini.  Sadly there's nothing cute about a grown up with a pudgy belly in anything.  Good thing I made my peace with that or I'd never leave the house...
This week's Pile It On challenge theme is "It's a Shore Thing".  The sponsor is  Some Odd Girl.   Check out the Pile It On challenge blog for all the details, rules, and linky thingy.  You'll also get to see what the rest of the design team has created.

If you're living north of the equator it's summertime and what better place to spend it then down the shore.  Do you say "down the shore" where you're from?  You hardly ever hear anyone say they're going to the beach in my old neck of the woods.  But I digress...

You're an Angel

These floral cameos have been in my stash for a looooong time and needed to see the light of day.  Too bad I can't figure out how to get a decent photograph of the card.  I've tried on three different days, used artificial just day light, tried using lights, changed the angle.  I just can't get a decent shot of this one.  The papers have prints with gray in them and look like mud.  The ribbon and cameo are a mossy green.  I've played around in the editing program and can't those colors to show up correctly.  Also on the stamped edge there are little pearls all around which can't be seen in this photo.

In this close up you can sort of see the pearls and the colors look right.  So why can't I get the whole card to photograph?

Here's the deets:
stamp - Verve "Celebrating You"
ink - Memento "Tuxedo Black"
paper - Recollections Neutrals cs; Teresa Collins "Carolina Breeze" dp
miscellaneous - pearls; pleated ribbon; lace with pearls; Webster's Pages "Silhouettes"; My Favorite Things "Circle" die-namics; rounded corner punch
