The Blues Penguins

There's the Blues Brothers, and then there's a movie about them called "the Blues Brothers" (duh). In the movie there's a nun called "the Penguin", and if you're too young to have seen it you've missed a funny, funny, flick and you need to rent it or hulu (is that how you spell that Internet movie thing?) it or borrow it. The music is great and it's timelessly funny. I say this because I have a teenage daughter who finds it hysterical, then there's me who 's been around long enough to have seen it when it first came out and I feel the same. We laugh like two hyenas when it's on. And there's ARETHA. It's worth it just to see her. Twiggy has a small part. Carrie Fisher is a stalker gone wild. John Belushi is, well, he's nuts, just plain nuts. If you survived Catholic School or heard the tales of horrors from friends that survived then you know of "the Penguin". In the schools I went to they were called "Kong" (seriously, you can imagine how sweet she was) and "Duck" (not as bad as Kong, but no picnic). Because of the many twisted stories I have to share about my early education I was loathe to send my daughter to anything other than public school. BUT in 4th grade she asked transfer out. YIKES! My hubbie assured me times had changed since I was there, the only change I see is that there aren't so many nuns around. So, I guess Liddy will have some funny stories to tell when she grows up.

The penguins on this card are much cuter and sweeter than that mean ole nun. They are just adorable . They're from the the Cat's Pajamas. This week Joanne is the hostess with the mostess and she posted a color challenge to use Olive, Light Blue and Ivory. So I wanted to make a get well card for my "baby" brother". We're practically seniors and I still call him my little brother or my baby brother. Not so much to his face...anyway, he's having a tough time and he's in for some more rough days. So I wanted to make something cheery, but I got a little carried away and once I stuck that flower on I thought I may have gone too far. I don't know, if you have a moment leave a comment, let me know what you think about sending this card to a guy.
I went looking through my paper stash and found this dp "Soft Garden Plaid" from Scrapbook Walls. The cross panel is the flip side of the dp. The light blue cs is from Best Occasions and the olive cs is from SU. It's stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on Georgia Pacific cs and colored with copics, the blanket is paper pieced. The mats were made with nesties. The cs the sentiment is on was made with an SU punch. The ribbon is from Mays, the flowers are Prima and they're highlighted with Stickles. I ran a strip of the dp across a strip of the blue cs that was punched with a Fiskar's punch.
Here's the rest of the challenges:
Stamp Something - Something cute (those penguins are cute)
Charisma Cardz Challenge - Think Male ( I did make it for my brother, I'm just not sure if it went a bit too far with the flower)
Pile It On - Challenge #6 Let Us See Flowers (you can't miss the sucker on mine)
The Pink Elephant - Challenge #54 Ribbon
Thanks for visiting, come back again and click on the pink ribbon before you leave.
