Howl High Can You Fly

This is Lavinia. I haven't seen the name Lavinia since I was a little girl and had a neighbor with that name. I never met, or heard of another Lavinia till I saw this stamp. I don't think it would have mattered what the stamp was named. I just like it. It's one of the Annie Rodrigue designs for Kraftin' Kimmie. Her images are so much fun to play with. So far I've been coloring them with my copics but I think they'd be good for paper piecing. Today I wanted to howl with the Midnight Madness Sketch challenge #41. You can pick one of two designs. They pretty much have the same layout for the most part but one has more embellishments than the other. I guess one is less complicated. So I chose the busier layout. These stamps come with an accessory and this set has the cogs and gears that you see on the edges of the mat. I thought I would use that instead of the buttons in the layout but it looked too empty without the buttons so I went looking in my stash for metal and wood tone buttons. these are all pretty old buttons that came with clothing. Does it surprise you that I throw nothing away, or that I have buttons in many different containers? Maybe you've read that I have a container of buttons that was my mother's. It's old and rusty and has some odd junk and buttons in it. I used to play with it when I was a kid so it has sentimental value for me, I can' throw the thing away. And if you're new to my ramblings you need to know that my husband cannot touch a button if it isn't attached to clothing, yes we are the odd couple. So this card has some "special buttons" on it. Which means they didn't come in a big old bag from AC Moore. Not that you can't get some really great new buttons, if you're looking for scoops of buttons that are not just little circles go check out My Favorite Things. The collections they sell always have some fun and different buttons in them, but I digress...

Some of the buttons had shanks on them that had to be popped off. Here's a hint, if you are clipping it off make sure you keep a finger on the shank or are wearing safety goggles and don't have little kiddies around who can swallow little things cause those shanks go flying when you clip them and they can be mean. Besides the buttons I added some dew drops and a few liquid pearls.

I flipped the layout because I wanted the part of the dp with the stamp on it to show.

The image was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black on white Georgia Pacific cs that was sponged with Ranger Antique Linen. The dp is from the K & Co. "Life's Journey" pad and the cs is from DCWV. The earring is from Joy Craft. There are a few Liquid Pearls around the buttons and used as buttons on her clothes. There are stickles on her hair. The stitching was done with a Sulky variegated thread, I love that thread. If you only know Coats and Clark thread and you like to sew on your cards then make a trip to a good fabric store and you will be in heaven when you see all the goodies you can sew with, and of course they'll probably carry buttons and ribbons that you might not find in your LSS.

I think I covered all the deets so here's the rest of the challenges:

Our Creative Corner - Something Old That's New (the buttons)

Stamp Something - Something Cute (Lavinia is pretty dang cute)

Crafty Creations Challenge #55 - Stitching

the Corrosive Challenge #51 - Sew it up

Well, I hope you enjoyed visiting, and will come back again. Please click on the pink ribbon before you leave. Thanks a bunch.

Those BUTTONS are d' bomb!!! :) Thanks for sharing your button story and the tip too..I found that one out the hard way..LOL I can see how some of these buttons are very old and special..I have 1000's of old buttons myself, but have a hard time using them..I just want to keep them..funny huh? Even funnier..when I was making this sketch, I knew I was going to use some of my vintage buttons on this one, but went with a sponsors image and the buttons just did not work :( Down the line, I will make another sketch with buttons, because this card has really inspired me to use my oldie but goodie button stash..LOL Your image and the way you mixed up your embellishments really worked well..{{{{clap clap clap...BRAVO}}} Another awesome entry for our weekly sketch challenge and I want to Thank You so much for entering it to share with our DT and our followers. 6. Chris-coming to your blog is like having a cup of coffee with a dear friend. Not only do I love your card-making style...but I really love your writing!!! My book club is writing a book showcasing each person's memoirs. We just took a crash course in writing this month from a college professor named "Freedom Speaks". I need to tell you my story, and have you write it!!!lol What a unique and fun-loving card. It has a "Let's get Funky" vintage feel to it and, for some reason, it makes me want to dance the Cha Cha slide!!!! LOL The old buttons are wonderful. What a treat this week for our sketch challenge. Thanks so much for playing along with us this week at the Midnight Madness Sketch Challenge. It is a blessing to have you as a friend and part of our family.
