We All Scream

We all scream for Pure Innocence. She is the cutest thing. I just love her and so does everyone I talk to about her. I think she's taking over my blog but that's okay by me.

For this card I decided to finally try Jen Del Muro's sketch challenge. I must have looked at her blog I {Heart} to Stamp hundreds of times and for no reason I can think of never tried her sketch. Well this week My Favorite Things is sponsoring her challenge so I just have to play, after all they are my favorite.

How'd'ya like that ice cream charm. Isn't that just adorable and perfect for this stamp. I just had to work that in even if it isn't in the sketch. Another little thing you may not notice is that for her shoes I covered the area with Ranger Glossy Accents to make them look like patent leather and I drew a pair of lacey edged ankle socks on her. She just seemed to need them.

In my ramblings around the internet I found another blog challenge that piqued my interest. When I saw this photograph on the Play Date Cafe I was bowled over, I just love pink and gray, throwing in black and white only makes it that much yummier. It's funny that the writer mentioned how these colors reminded her of when she was a child because whenever I see them I am reminded of the potholders I made in these colors. I did love this combination even back then. I still love this combination.

Say Ahhhh

Poor sick puppy, looks like he's seen better days. I know I can use this as a get well card for any type of illness but I actually know someone who broke their leg and because it hasn't healed properly she needs to have work done it, when she's ready. The key words there are "when she's ready". Doesn't look like she's gong to be ready any time soon. Well, there's always someone getting ill or hurting themselves one way or another so I'll be using this sooner than later and I can always make another one. That's the great thing about stamps you can use them over and over.

This week the hostess with the mostess on the Cat's Pajamas is Susie Q-tip, Susiestampalot, and she's challenged us to use the "You Sick Thing" stamp set and yippee, I just happen to have that set and it just happens to be one of my favorites. So I picked the sketch for the Mojo Monday Challenge and the colors from the Color Throwdown and sat down to work and came up with this card.

Still Cramming After All These Years

I thought when I finished school all those many years ago that I'd be done with cramming at the last minute but I was wrong. Now I'm cramming to get cards done and go to on line parties in the same night. So the midnight oil is burning away but I've finished up my gift wrapping the bridal shower present project.

Some of my friends chipped in on a gift card and I was asked to make the card. I thought it was going to be a credit card type gift card but it turned out to be a certificate in a box. I had been planning on making a gift card holder card so I had to shift gears and come up with another idea and this is the results. I actually like this idea better than the original one. I hope my friends aren't put off by the bright colors.



I wrapped the gift card box in white card stock and made a belly band to go around it and then put a coordinating "seal" on the band. The edges of the cardstock on the belly band and the edges of the cardstock on the inside of the card were punched with the same border punch to pull it all together.


In this stamp there's rain pouring down in the background but since I'm not using it as a get well card I changed the rain into little hearts and covered two of them with red glitzy glitter and glossy accents.

Getting the card up on my blog brings home the cramming feeling. It's the typing and writing, reminds me of having to get a paper done. So here it is and all that's left is to list the deets and the challenges.

Sweet Memories

If you have a little girl chances are you sent her to ballet classes. I'm sure some of you sent your girl to softball, volleyball, gymnastics or even chess classes and I hope they loved it. It's about your kid having fun. That's all I care about but since this stamp is a ballerina it's taking me down the nostalgia trail. When my darling daughter was a little girl I took her to the dance classes the town ran. At the end of the year they had a recital. We were asked to get a pink nightgown for our girls to wear as their costumes. This stamped image so reminds me of this event. The dance number was supposed to be a dream sequence, hence the nightgowns. We were also asked to have them bring a teddy bear or stuff animal. Liddy wanted to bring her stuffed bunny and this stamp set comes with a dancing bunny, all the more to remind me of her first recital. The big night came, hubby and I and my sister-in-law Tako were in the audience anxiously awaiting our little angel and finally her number came and she and all the girls were so darling and THEN, the girls were supposed to hold the animals in their arms like they were dancing with them and twirl in a circle with them and that's when Liddy put the bunny in her mouth and whipped around in a circle and Tako and I were almost on the floor we were laughing so hard, I had tears in my eyes and I nearly wet my pants.

A Mom Card and being a Mom

I recently signed up for a MFT card swap and I also signed up for a shoebox swap. No, we don't swap shoeboxes, we fill shoeboxes with card parts, lots of card parts. For the MFT swap I need 3 sets of 6 cards. Since the shoebox swap is still open I don't know how many cards or parts will be needed, but it'll be twenty something card fronts and twenty something kits. I've been spending an awful lot of time thinking about what I will make for these two events. This card is my first failure. I sort of like the card but not much. I used the Friday Sketchers challenge for my layout and I'm not happy with it through no fault of the Friday Sketchers, I like the sketch, it's my interpretation of it that's lacking. I do like the way the stamped image came out. I spent a lot of time working on the paper piecing and it worked out nicely if I do say so myself, if you could see me I'm patting myself on my back. I also like the dp for the base, it's got cookies and measuring cups and baking stuff on it and it's in great colors. So it's back to the drawing to see if I can come up with a layout that I like using these papers.

As I said earlier I like the sketch, it nice and linear and balanced. The design team over at Friday Sketchers Challenge came up with cards that look great. You should take a look at what they did. I didn't pull off the cross pieces, I wasn't happy with just the pink cs and punched dp so I added those paper flowers. I love the paper flowers on my desk, but once they hit the card I'm not fond of them. I don't have much confidence with flowers and need to work with them more. If you browse through the blog you'll notice that there aren't a lot of flowers here.

What the whole thing boils down to is this , I like it enough to keep and use but not enough to make multiple times.

When she tried on that dress she was so excited, I had to buy it for her. I'm used to seeing her in her school uniform or her out of school uniform of skinny jeans and tee shirts, or pajama bottoms and tee shirts so I am thrilled to see her looking all dolled up. Now if I could just get her to brush her hair out of her face.

For Mom

In real life I love the way this card looks. In this picture not so much. The pinks are much more vibrant, you can tell the center of the flower is a pearl, you can see the distressing and sponging on the paper edges and the twist of the ribbon isn't so annoying. Other than that...
This stamp set is the VIP package from the May MFT release. The WTG (Who's That Girl) images (headless women) are what attracted me to MFT (My Favorite Things). I liked the "any woman" idea. The large spaces for coloring or paper piecing are another reason I love these stamps. I've continued to buy these stamps because Kim, the MFT Lady, keeps making WTG stamps that I can relate to, and so can a whole slew of other women. I've been speaking with a bunch of them for over a year on the MFT forums on Splitcoast, if you love MFT you should pay us a visit, anyone can jump in at any time and be welcomed. Kim is very savvy and she continues to find "must have" products to go along with the stamps. This month she's introducing "Die-namics". I've used the scalloped scalloped edge on the cs on the sentiment bar here. After I punched it out I sponged the edges to add to the distressed look.

Dude

I hope you read that title with a Valley Girl accent, this little doggie is a regular surfer dude and he talks the talk to go along with it. Growing up my brothers used to call each other dude, in a familial mocking way, later we had a dog with that name, she was black but she didn't surf. Then again we never gave her a board, who knows, maybe she could have.

Last week The Cat's Pajamas challenge was to use cork and it's sticking with me and being carried over into this week's challenge and since I have a large sheet of cork you'll probably be seeing a lot of cork.

This week our hostess with the mostess is Joanne and she's issued a color challenge to use turquoise, red and ivory. I threw in a piece of yellow but I don't think anyone will mind. I picked the surfer dog because I thought he'd go with cork and the colors.

By the way, the red in this picture has a brownish orange look but it is a gorgeous shade of red in real life, I wish I had a better understanding of how to work the editing color features.

Hang In There

"Hang in there" is kind of what I've been trying to do lately. That's one way to get through the stress and probably the most mature way to behave. Of course there's also throwing a hissy fit. I like throwing the fit much more and fortunately for me I've got people that actually let me rant and rave about whatever has got my goat. This weekend someone told me I had an attitude, and while I didn't think I had one before she said that you better believe that I had one afterward. However I took the high road and walked away from her and found someone who let me throw my hissy fit.

Another great stress reliever is stamping and everything that goes along with it. I am the happiest camper when I'm blog hopping, checking out the challenges, or making a card.

Last week the Cat's Pajamas challenged "Let's Get Corked". I was thinking about it since Tuesday. The MFT Wednesday Stamp Club challenge is to make a representation of Earth Day. And when I saw the Sweet Sunday Sketch challenge 66 I knew that I wanted to make a card for it. I love this sketch, it's a keeper and the slim strips are a perfect place for a piece of cork. The Basic Grey dp, Porcelain, goes great with the cork and the cs mat and strips were scraps that were pulled because they are in the dp. To go with the rustic feel of the cork I distressed the edges of the dp and some of the cs and then sponged all the paper edges with Ranger Frayed Burlap for the Crafty Creations Challenge #64 - distressing. The image and the mat were cut with nestibilities which is the Creative Belli challenge #89 die cut shapes. The Crafty Ho's challenge is April Showers bring...this image makes me think of the beautiful spring days that come after those showers. And lastly, there's the CCEE challenge to make a get well card to recuperate from the April 15th tax deadline.

Night or Day

Rain or Shine, Night or Day? That's me today. I'm totally out of whack. I actually left work because I was half asleep. I had a nice little nappy and got up to make this card. It's for the MFT Wednesday Stamp Club challenge. I have a great time over on the MFT forum at Splitcoast and in case you haven't noticed, I love MFT stamps and products, so it's a no brainer that I play along in the challenges. This week Kim challenged us to make a card with the theme "April Showers", or to use her lay out, or to create a custom embellishment. I think the hardest part of this challenge was to decide which April Showers stamp I'd use. I picked "Rain or Shine" because I haven't gotten the WTG inky in awhile and she has always been one of my favorites. I love that she has polka dot wellies and her doggie has a sweater, this time I put some dots on his sweater to match her boots, I'm sure WTG would gotten her doggie a sweater to match her outfit. Then again, if she's anything like me she might have gotten the doggie sweater first and then compiled the rest of the outfit to got with it. Oh, yeah, like you haven't bought a pair of killer shoes that you didn't have anything to go with and then proceeded to build a killer look to go along with it. And if you haven't it's only because you haven't found those shoes yet, but trust me you will and when you do you'll be remembering this. Oh and by the way, if you did this with a Coach bag or any other accessory it's the same thing.

I also like to do the Scrapmaster's Paradise Color Combo challenge and this week it's Green Galore and Gable Green which I love and Dusty Durango which I loathe. Odd because I loved my orange beetle but I find it yukky in card stock, so for me this one was a challenge but I have a package of Basic Grey "Phoebe" paper and those colors are all in it so I used it for the dp. I colored the boots, sweater and dog with SU markers and the flesh on WTG with copics. The puddle was painted with Pearlescent watercolors. I used ranger glossy accents on the boots in the tag.

Listen to the Bunny

"Take It Easy", good advice for anyone, anytime. This week has been a little stressful for me, good stress, but stress nevertheless. I filed my retirement papers, a big step. Filing the paper was the easy part, now there's so much that has to be done, mostly finishing up and cleaning up. Beside retiring I'm moving. There's so much to do and more importantly there's so little space to move my stuff into. I get the most stressed out over my craft and art supplies. I have no idea where I'm going to put them. ACK! So I have to listen to the bunny and just chill over this. This is just another example of, if this is the worst of my problems, then life is pretty sweet.

This bunny is from "Joyride" from the April release over at the Cat's Pajamas. Lots of fun and rowdiness (check out those rascally penguins while you're there) in this release. I always wanted a Vespa, but they always seemed so impracticable to me that I never shopped for one. Who knows, maybe I'll go for one now.

Doesn't the Vespa scream to be paper pieced. I used some Stampin' Up papers which I picked to use for the Just Us Girls color challenge. It doesn't hurt that I love this color combo. I like the way this card came out so much I feel like sending it to myself. LOL! I do entertain myself.

Papertake Weekly - Cutie Pie, let's see lots of cuteness (this bunny is pretty dang cute)

Poor Sick Birdie!

If these guys don't help you fell better, not much will. The penguins are recurring characters in the Cat's Pajamas stamps. They're usually having fun, in fact in this month's release they're drinking margarita's and partying pretty hardy. This leaves me thinking that this sucker isn't sick, he's hung over. I tell ya' they are a some wild and whacky birds.
This week the challenge at the Cat's Pajamas is an inspiration challenge, a photograph of a bed with polka dots sheets on it so for my card I used my copic markers to color the sheets on the bed to resemble the ones in the inspiration photo. I actually like my sheets a little better but unless I start weaving my own fabric they will only exist on this card.

Desperate Housewife III - Can It Get Any Worse

Note to self - Do NOT Leave Home Without Your Mounting Block! I've been dying to ink up this buggy bug stamp that I won from the ever so generous and funny Joanne from "Just a Little Something" and wouldn't you know it, it won't stick to my camera! What's a girl to do? Here I go again, thrashing the house to find something that I can stick this stamp onto (I do this at crops too, yeah, that's me the lady leering over your shoulder at your supplies, I have invaded church kitchens to find a bowl to make a big circle) , I guess if I didn't mind getting the camera sticky I could have used it, but nah, no sticky stuff on camera. I tried a stamp pad lid and ended up with ink all over me and a very bad image, edges sloppy, middle non-existent. I finally found an acrylic box with lots of brads in it - Hey, it's acrylic, the blocks are acrylic, the light bulb in my head turned on and I was able to stamp again. another dilemma solved. Ah, I hope you could stand that suspense.

The other major problem of the day was deciding what shade of green I was going to use on the bug in the buggy. Oh, the heartache, trials and tribulations. I do not know how I make it through the day.

I tell you, life is good. Yesterday my sister-in-law took me and the family out for lunch. We went to a place on the water, and how sweet is it for people to pull up in their boat to the dock next to my table and get out for lunch and while they're eating the staff is washing the boat. I actually said "Life is good" to one of the women as she walked by, and she agreed. So maybe I don't have my mounting block with me, but I can sit by the water watching dolphins cruise by, pelicans coming and going and toss back a brewski. Not a bad day.

Today, we went to the pool, the water was cold, oh dear I had to go sit in the hot tub instead. If you are going through a rough patch, try to remember that this too will pass. Everyday of my life hasn't been this easy and there are many days I complain relentlessly about the trivial nonsense going on but in the end I have to say, "life is good".

I made this card using the sketch from Mojo Monday. I didn't have anything else in mind, just to use this stamp and play in Mojo. The first week of the month is the one with a prize, but there's a good sketch posted there every Monday. Since my first beetle was orange I had to make this little bug orange. I wanted the paper to be bright and cheery to go with the orange bug so I used Basic Grey Sugar Rush dp. I just love the Mays ribbon I got from Michele the Enchanted Stamper. She's one of the NJ SCS stampers I've met at a couple shoe box swaps. Lots of fun and she's got ribbon, what more could you want in a friend.

Desperate Housewife II - The Saga Continues

If you read the previous post you know that I am away from my usual crafting room and with limited supplies. For me very limited, I packed a messenger bag with a little bit of this and that but forgot lots of important stuff, like a mounting block for the few acrylic stamps I did take.

So tonight when I decided I wanted to make a card using the MFT sketch for Wednesday Stamp Club I immediately sought out my camera to use as the mounting block. Well, tonight my stamping was not as successful as last night. I had to stamp poor little PI several times and never did get a good clean image but fortunately for me I have a pretty steady hand and I drew in the lines that didn't come out.

I love to paper piece and it always fun to piece PI's dress. This dp is from the basic Grey Green at Heart pack. Since I had several stamped images on white cs I decided to color her pockets and collar on one of them, and of course they have to match her pink tights. The coloring was done with Prismacolor pencils, no mineral spirits, never tried them but just may have to yet. I added some Martha Stewart pink micro beads to the heart on the mail box. OH MY GOD! Have you ever used those suckers? Well, let me tell you this, those bad boys have a life of their own. This stuff makes glitter look neat. NEVER, EVER, I repeat NEVER, EVER use them outside a confined space like an embossing box or a box lid. I thought I got all the little run aways up - nah, every time I moved something there were more hiding.

The image and the mat (Best Occasions cs) were cut out with the Creative Memories cutting system (I just couldn't deal with dragging my Big Shot along for the ride - but I do have the travel bag for it). Then the edge of the white cs was sponged with Ranger Tattered Rose and somewhere along the line a couple drops of ink appeared on the white cs, and they did not look like they belonged there at all, to me they looked like blobs the size of Rhode Island. After all the work already put into it this baby was not going to get ditched. Scrappers say there are no mistakes, just reasons to embellish so it was time for the thinking cap. Ordinarily I would punch it out and put ribbon through the slot but I don't have that kind of punch with me (if there's ever a next time I'm gonna let a monkey pack for me, it couldn't do a worse job than I did). I had planned on putting just one of those pearl hearts on the lower right side, which I did but I had the idea to put one over the blob. It worked but you can't use two, can you? And since I was already having so much fun with the micro beads I decided to fill the centers of the hearts with them and I really like the way they turned out.

For the cross element the Close to My Heart pink twill ribbon which has been sitting around forever seemed like a good choice. If you want to stamp or write on your ribbon twill is a good choice and I wanted to put my sentiment on it. So back to the mounting block problemo. To get it on the twill I would need to be able to see it. So desperate again, (during the bead round up I was more frantic than desperate) I needed to come up with something clear. The ribbon came in a clear tube and that's what I ended up using, it worked out. I don't recommend it but if you're in a pinch it works.

The inside has a strip of the dp and under that there's another piece of pink cs with the hydrangea punching.

So that's pretty much the details of the card and the saga. Can't wait to try making another card tomorrow, there's bound to be a part III. If nothing whacky happens I'll try to entertain you with some other silliness.

Desperate Housewife

Not her silly, me. There's nothing desperate about that woman, she's totally in control, anyone who cooks in pearls and a dress is one cool customer. Now me on the other hand, I do not cook in my Sunday best cause I am messy, I'm good but I wear it all. Same thing when I eat, I'm one of those types you can't take anywhere unless you don't care that I'm gonna spill and look horrible by the end of the meal.

So why am I desperate, you ask. Well I'll tell you. I decided to make a card for the April Guest Designer Challenge at MFT and as it is, I have taken very little supplies with me (oh, we're in parts south, yeah Florida! - any northern thieves beware we left Shamus in charge of the house) and the challenge is to make a masculine card and use metal. Well, I took this WTG stamp set "Lovin' from the Oven" and a couple PI's but not one of the boys (by the way if any of you know where the heck I stowed the boy and his dog from the last release please tell me cause he seems to have run away from home). So I finally decided that I would use the WTG and go with darker more masculine colors, blue is for boys right? And one of the dp's is a paisley print they use that on men's ties right? So I'm on the masculine side. So I go to ink up my stamp and can't find a mounting block. When I threw the few items I took with me in my messenger bag I failed to put in a block. So as I looked around "desperately" trying to figure out what to do I saw my camera and realized it's about the same size as the stamp so I stuck it on. It worked! Voila! Not so easy to see through the camera and as I stamped a couple times in order to cut out paper pieces I hit the one off switch and the lens popped up. I would have taken a photo to show you what it looked like but you can see how that might be a problem. Use your imagination, and when you have that image of me with camera in hand stamping away you can laugh about it, it won't hurt my feelings.
