PWC261 - Father's Day

This week at Paper Pretties we're challenging you to make Father's Day cards.  Ah, the dreaded masculine card.  I know there's a few of you out there that have no problem with masculine cards but most of the card makers I know find it daunting to make masculine cards.  I think the problem is that we like to make things that appeal to ourselves, and we like to use all those fun and usually girly embellishments.  Well, this week you have to put all that frilly stuff away and make something for Father's Day.

For my card I used the lawn mower from the Paper Pretties "Handy Man" stamp set.  This is one of my favorite set because it chuck full of manly stuff.  There's 3 images - the lawn mower, a tool box and a barbecue  plus there are plenty of sentiments.  Once I had my image picked the next step is to find papers that work for a masculine card.  I usually look for simple patterns, checks and plaids, in color like blue, green and brown.  In other words I tend to look for dull stuff.  However sometimes I surprise myself and find some colorful papers that I think will work for a masculine card.  Next it's time to look for ways to embellish the card without getting girly - buttons and brads are my usual choice.  Usually if I use ribbon it will be  tied in a knot instead of a bow for this card I hung it off the sentiment to make it look like a prize.      To decorate a border I used Martha Stewart's grass border punch on green polka dot paper.  In  didn't photograph well, in real life it looks much better.

Whatever you do I'm sure it will be well received.  Men are easily satisfied when it comes to cards.  So make a masculine card and post it to the Paper Pretties Challenge blog.  The pretty girls love to see what you make.

Here's the deets:
stamp - Paper Pretties "Handy Man"
ink - Memento "Tuxedo Black" and Color Box "Chianti"
paper - Wausau "Sunflower" and "Firecracker Red" card stock; October Afternoon "Campfire"
miscellaneous - copics; Stampin' Up 1-3/8" circle and scalloped circle punches; Martha
Stewart grass border punch; buttons; gross grain ribbon
